Default Oil Pump going bad?

The last couple mornings I have noticed that when I start my car, the oil pressure gauge is around 3/4. After a while it drops to 1/4 to 1/2 and rises with acceleration(around 1k to 2k rpm). I haven't really paid any attention to it until now.Is this normal? Thanks

Did you mean drops *by* 1/4 down to half? or it actually drops all the way down to 1/4? Anyway as the oil heats up naturally the pressure is going to drop, if it's staying around 40 it should be fine. If its dropping to 20 you might be concerned... and yeah it should rise with rpms

My bad.I should have worded it better. It stays in between the 20 and 40 mark. Then rises with acceleration. So I guess it's ok? I just had 600.00 worth of head work done,so I'm a little more observant about my gauges.

I know LT1s run with lower oil pressure then the LS1s but I think 20 may still be a bit low for your car. Could also be the oil pressure sending unit? Could be nothings wrong at all though, I don't know how low LT1s run.

Mine does the same thing, and also if i give it any gas it shoots back up to right at 60psi. I dont think you should be worried.

This morning I had a knocking noise and after the oil circulated for 5 seconds, it went away? it doesn't do it now since the oil is hot,I'll have to see what tomorrow brings. How hard is it to replace if I need too?

Everything you are describing is also done by my car, I don't think you have a problem. My oil pressure is about 60 when cold, about 20 when idling once it's warm, and about 40 when driving, and it will vary with engine rpm. And it does tick a little on cold starts.

Mine is not really a tick,it's more of a loud knock.

If i just does it for five seconds I wouldn't worry about it. What oil are you using?

Royal Purple 10w-30. I just went outside and started the car.it didn't make any knocking noise. It has been setting for a couple hours.Just have to see what happens in the morning. The car just hit 74,000 miles.Should I try something else? I have used Royal Purple for the last 5 yrs.
