where's the writeup? Something you put together or just a standard writeup?

See those stickies at the top of the forum? Funny how even with Rosie O'Donnel sized font, they still get ignored. Maybe Brains should turn the flasher back on, lol.

I was about to seafoam until I talked to a mechanic. He said it is not worth the chance doing this. He said if you throw a can in the gas tank it's just going to loosen up all the crap in the gastank & possibly clog the injectors..also said that it could potentially damage the cam when you throw it in the oil, It could leak down through the pistons into the cylinder wall(Rings) You only want to clean the top of the engine above the pistons..I am not going to take a chance with 90k on my engine..My luck it will blow it up He had me buy some stuff i am going to throw in the throttle body, he has had good results with it. I am not going to say what it is just yet

yeah, i was going to say, while seafoam is great it is even better to do it during a tune up. the gunk and carbon that seafoam cleans out is going to ruin your O2s and clog up other stuff. But if you're going to replace it all at the same time, then you're car is probably going to feel brand spankin new! worked for me!

after the seafoam i changed out spark plugs and wires, oil and fluids, and O2s.

have you ever seen a bottle of seafoam? it's labeled as cat and O2 safe. seafoam doesn't damage these things. the only thing seafoam can potentially damage is a spark plug, and at the most, seafoam will only be the straw the broke the camel's back - seafoam will only ruin a plug that's on its last leg. it isn't going to ruin a brand new set of plugs. if your cats ever died after seafoaming, it was a coincidence.

is it better to do seafoam BEFORE a tuneup? yes. seafoam will add a little more wear and tear to the components than if you haven't done it, but seafoam isn't going to break ANYTHING that wasn't about to break. people are commenting on things they have no idea about. read the bottle - seafoam doesn't harm anything that wasn't on its last leg.

And how about the mechanic that states "He said it is not worth the chance doing this. He said if you throw a can in the gas tank it's just going to loosen up all the crap in the gastank & possibly clog the injectors.."

I guess he doesn't know that there are fuel filters on our cars!!

true story. ^ any fuel, or gas line cleaner is going to loosen up shat. depending on how long you do your reasearch on products you can find a few threads (not on here, well maybe but i doubt it) that the lucas fuel additive has ruined injectors because there was rust in the fuel rail and when the lucas came through it picked it up and got it stuck in the fuel injector. if you keep your maintence up on your car there is no way that any of the normal cleaners are going to do anything.

Default seafoam clogging catalytic converter

If a high mileage engine has significant combustion deposit build-up, anything that breaks those deposits free from the intake, valves and combustion chamber will cause the particles (some may be relatively large) to exit the exhaust and be captured in the fine mesh within the catalytic converter. This is the theory anyway and has been the posted result by more than one person.

I want very much to remove the deposits from my 100k mile LT1 engine without disassembling it but I will put a test pipe in place of the cat before I do it. - JUST IN CASE ...

I suggest you do a poll for everyone who has actually used SeaFoam to post if they had any problems rather than "I read on the internet" or "I heard from somebody who new somebody".

I think there are dozens of us on here who have used SeaFoam with O2 sensors, cats and all and never had a problem.

i'll attest to that. I used it on a 110K mile engine and had no problems whatsoever afterward.

I did it on my car when it had about 125k on it and didn't have any problems. Didn't get the "smoke show" I was hoping for though.
