Default blue smoke, HELP!

have a 01 ss with 100000km (60000 miles). I switched from reg oil to synthetic and installed magnaflo cat back and gutted the cats.
The car has started to smoke (blue) under acceleration and when idling. It has been to the redline a few times. My question is whats wrong, could it be valve seals, or worse, and what would be plan of action?
thks

Well I'm not sure switching to synthetic at that high mileage was a smart idea. You may also be having some internal issues with it burning oil. I'm taking you didn't have these problems before you switched oil?

60,000 I don't think is very high mileage. I read somewhere about new headers burning off lubricant (blue smoke) afterwards and it wasn't anything to worry about. Not sure if this would be the case with a new catback or not. Maybe you got some wd40 or something in the exhaust when you removed the cats to gut them. I would let it get good and hot to burn off anything and if it's still a problem I'd look into it more.

Default blue smoke

It did not have any issues before the synthetic. Im thinking a compression test should indicate sometrhing. Do you know how big a job it is to remove engine or do seals (is there a way to check seals)
thks

you might have done something to a piston ring, might be pulling oil into the combustion chamber

do you get a big puff of blue smoke when you first start it up?

thats a good sign the valve seals are bad.

but you are probably just burning oil from the switch. switch back, and i bet the smoke goes away

yah there is some smok when i start it up. did a compresion test today and they where all fine but the number 5 cyl had the highest comp. (180) and the plug was filthy with oil. so put a new plug in it and gonna put new seal and see how it goes from there. i also changed the oil back to wat it was , 10w 30..... plus an additive. still smokes but gotta work it in a lil bit.

Try using 10W40 oil, too. 5W30 is too thin for these engines (chalk it up to the General trying to meet fuel economy standards). I would try Castrol or Royal Purple synthetic. It's not unusual to burn a little oil. Typically, 1 qt in a 1000 miles is considered to be within normal parameters. I don't see how changing the exhaust could have any effect on oil burning.
