which oil to use???

Default which oil to use???

my car has had 5w30 mobil 1 since new its a 99 camaro ss (LS1) and recently i have just tryed amsoil 0w30 just wondering have any of u head some down sides of amsoil or should i be stickin to mobile 1 thanks.

there have been a ton of topics on this, do a search..The consensus is German Castrol 0W-30 is the best..It's at certain Autozone's only

The Series 2000 0W-30 is a great oil. But if you live where it gets and stays hot all of the time (like southern Tejas), it has proven to be a little too thin for LSxes.
Now, for those of us in the northern tier states, in the dead of winter, there are not many better oils we can possibly use.

I use Mobil 1 5w-30 and a K&N oil filter. Have used that since i bought the car back in 2004, and 30K miles later.

i really dont see a down side to using it. its all a 30 weight once the oil heats up some.

Somewhat true, but there are sometimes BIG variances in 2 different oils labeled a '30 weight'. The API/SAE give a range of specs (cSt @ 40 & 100 degrees centigrade) for each and every labeled weight. Some oils come in on the heavier end, some on the lower, some right in the middle.
This is one of the reasons our engines 'like' (and so many on here swear by) the German Castrol, even though it is labeled a 0W-30 as well. It's '30 weight' is actually closer to a low 40 weight rating (in cSts). :wink:
