Lightbulb Light/Fuse/Dumb *** Problems...

I should probably post this in stupidest things I've ever done forum- I pulled all the fuses out of my side panel. Then to be even more stupid, I didn't know where the went to put them back so I guessed. (Later I found out they are listed on the cover)

Ok, as you can imagine I went through a few days of blown fuses and **** not working. I think pretty well everything got to working alright, but around then my dash and radio lights go off everytime I turn on the headlights. Turn off the headlights they come right back on.

I have all the fuses in the correct places now and they are all good fuses. My husband told me I probably messed up something from running the fuses in the wrong places, but I don't want to believe him.

So, any ideas of what could be going on and what to start trying to fix it? I did double check all fuses aren't blown and in the right slots and I've un-hooked my battery and that didn't help.

PS: I pulled the fuses to keep my husband from driving my car... in case you needed to know.

Next time go to the underhood fuse box and pull the ignition, starter, and fuel pump relays and leave the fuses alone

Get the easy things out of the way first, are you sure your dimmer switch is turned all the way up?

I should've known u guys would get a GOOD laugh at me!!!

Yes, it's not the dimmer switch...couldn't be that easy. So, he said something about messing up the car's computer...any ideas how to fix it?

Yeah, I thought I was soooo cleaver to pull the fuses and take them with me...but I never thought about how I was going to get the car KEY from him.

The radio time/channel is displayed until I turn on the headlights...then it goes off. But worse when the headlights are on and I need to see my gauges they won't light up now, making me prime meat for a speeding ticket.

Eh, the car's computer wouldn't control the dash lights. Sounds like you still have a blown fuse or something got fried. The fact that it's your dash lights AND radio lights tells me that the problem is in the headlight/dimmer switch somewhere, if you're absolutely sure that all of the fuses are good.

One more vote for checking the fuses again. Did you replace them all? You can't just tell by looking at them. Are there any problems with the security system? Some of those settings involve pulling the radio fuse to reset. But your headlights should have nothing to do with your dashlights. Unless there is a basic voltage problem too. No one tried to loosen the battery cables in all the heated confusion?

You guys finally convinced me to try the fuses one more time!!! I got all new fuses and started switching them out one by one. All were good but while I had the extra's I started up-ing the amps for the stuff seemed to be related to my problem. Sure enough, the IP Dimmer fuse calls for 5 amps, 10 kicked on my dash/radio lights while my headlights were on! PROBLEM FIXED!~!! Chalk up one more kick *** money saver from the likes of this board. Thanks guys...

I'm not following.
What amperage fuse do you have in the IP Dimmer fuse location now?

Also, just changing the amperage of a fuse will not magically make other components turn on or off. There must have been a short somewhere.
