3.4 v6 camaro Overheating fan issue.
I know its not an ls1 but its my brothers car! haha Ok to the point. The car starts to overheat rapidly when stopped in traffic or at a light. I have flushed the radiator and put a fresh mixture of 50/50 coolant in, replaced the oem 195* thermostat with a 180* thermostat. it seemed to stay cool for a while but still overheats when standing still. The fan kicks on only when you turn the A/C on. It will not kick on at all otherwise. The system has plenty of coolant and a lower degree thermostat. I know the fan works cuz it will kick on and Yes I looked at it under the hood to be sure it was spinning. It only kicks on when you turn your ac on though and not automatically when the car reaches a certain temp. Im trying to fix this for my brother because he doesnt have a whole lot of $ to spend at the time. I have an idea of what it could be but would like to hear others opinions and repair thoughts.
Thanks,
Jeff

Did you bleed any air out of it when you refilled the system? There is usually a brass plug on the water neck somewhere around the t stat housing for that purpose, if you have not.
The fan will not come on sooner even with a lower temp t stat unless you go in with HPT or something and reprogram the fan points, I believe.
BTW there are a descent amount of 3.4 people on www.fullthrottlev6.com.

Yes make sure ALL the air is out.
Let the car cool and then run it with the radiator cap open and when that thermostat opens the coolant level in the radiator should drop. Thats when you add more because all the air is out.

I cycled it several times. There is no air in the system. I ckecked it over 4 times. I have done many radiator flush, services. Just dont understand why a fan would go on if you turn the ac on but not if the car gets hot. That wouldnt be a fan relay if it kicks on with the ac would it?
