Default rear end fluid

are there any signs that the rear end fluid may be low or out? i started getting a pretty good vibration at high speed and now i started to hear a strange sound when im just rolling and going slow from the rear of the car

all 4 tires are recently balanced and the driveshaft was rebalanced when i put in the clutch

Vibration is one sign.

A whine or humming noise is a good indicator also.

You should be ok man.

If you have to drive the car, just take it easy until you do the differential flush.

Have you actually pulled the check plug and looked to see how full it is instead of just wondering. That's the only way you're gonna tell for sure.

correct. Remove the fill plug. Stick a finger in and see if you can feel any fluid. Point the finger down toward the ground. If it comes out sticky, you are fine. If it comes out dry, put some fluid in immediately.

how many miles are on the car? most people NEVER check their diff fluid. i would just get a little drain pan and drain all the fluid out and fill it back up. only problem is i never found a clean way to fill it up. if anybody knows one please share the secret haha. they put the fill spot where its impossible to tilt the bottle up enough to pour the fluid in

^^^It is a pain in the *** but I use one of those suction guns and suck it out of the bottle and squirt it into the diff. and that works good and is the cleanest method I've found yet.

I am going to just replace the fluid and gasket so ill see how much is in it when i drain it. I dont drive it every day so its just gonna sit until i get my stuff.

I have one of the hand pumps for pulling the fluid out of the bottle so it wont be a prob filling it up, i used it when i did the tranny fluid.

There's an Auto Hobby shop on Marine Corps Base Quantico I go to that has a handheld pump (looks kinda like a caulking gun but with a closed chamber). You pour in your fluid and pump it into the chamber you want. It leaks a little, but it's nothing that a rag can't take care of.

This is the "suction gun" mentioned above. It's available at all decent auto parts stores.

I just use the Sta Lube "hand soap dispenser" type pump with the fill tube and the "stepped"/locking end fitting. This is less mess since you can get a full quart at a time into the axle (only 1 change of the bottle to fill).

+3 on the gun. It's like pushing honey through a straw but it is alot more effective that most any other method.
