Default Car is missing uphill and idles rough. Code p0102 and p0135..advice needed

So my car started to miss going uphill with the cruise on. Then it started to idle rough every now and then. The guy behind me said when I would get on it, lots of black smoke was coming out of my pipes and when it would miss going up hill, it'd do the same. He says I'm running rich and he hooked up his scanner and i got the p0102 code and p0135 which if i remember right is for maf and o2 sensors. I have no cats BTW. So we unhooked what we thought was the MAF sensor and it seems to be running better and no rough idle. What do you guys think it could be? Should I try cleaning the MAF. I don't even know where this is cuz I'm a total newb. Where is it and is there a write up somewhere that can help me out....thx guys?

First thing I'd check is the ENG SEN fuse and see if it's blown, the H02S and MAF are on the same circuit. If it's blown and you have headers look for a burnt or arcing wire against a header.

Visit gearchatter.com and look up the codes/diagnostics for your year. You can get an owners manual at http://shbox.com/pdf/manuals.html

well i didn't get the 155 code. but other than that we are having the same problem. my fuse is blown as well. i asked the guy at advance if the wire could be spliced back together and he said, "i don't see why not"....who knows how much he knows though.

i can just barely see my o2's so i don't know if they are touching or not without renting a jack or something.

i know somewhere out there knows what to do, they just haven't noticed this thread yet.

Timmy I thought you posted earlier that the fuse wasn't blown and had 102 and 135? Both you guys need to get under the car and check both bank 02 wiring harnesses. Depending on how bad their damaged/melted try a repair first.

i'm a real newb man...i didn't know we had 3 fuse boxes. i checked every fuse that was in the box by the driver door. the car is still new to me and i used the link you gave me for the owner's manual and it told me that we had three boxes. honestly i didn't even notice those boxes cuz i haven't had to be under the hood yet.....

i'll be checking the o2 wires when i go see my parents this weekend cuz my dad has a jack i could use...but i need to know what i have to do when i find the o2 sensor has shorted out on either the headers or whatever else it touches....

Is it ok to have the maf sensor unplugged? Is it a temp fix for now until i get the o2 sensor fixed?

Cool, hopefully Timmy's issue is the same. I wouldn't unplug the MAF if you don't have to drive that far, probably won't make a difference - driving with the SES on isn't necessarily bad as long as it's not flashing on and off.

Well I couldn't take it anymore and couldn't wait till this weekend. I got the car on a lift at the auto hobby shop on base. I found a wire was touching the transmission. I guess the tranny get's pretty hot and melted the insulation and was shorting out on my transmission. So since it wasn't broken I just put a crap load of electrical tape around it, wrapped the three or so wires with some plastic housing and left some slack on the o2 sensor. I replaced the blown fuse and holy **** it worked. No more hard shifts. My tranny use to shift very hard into every gear. Now that's fixed. Amazing what something that small can impact. I don't know if I'm running rich yet or if it'll miss uphill. I'll find that out later when I take it out racing this weekend. I'm pretty sure my problems are over. Thx for all the help!!!!!!!
