Default When to change fuel filter

I know it's recommended to change the fuel filter every 30,000 miles, but I have always changed mine at 10,000. The problem is that when I do change it I look at the fuel in the old filter and its filthy! Almost black it's so bad. When do you guys change yours? Im thinking I should change it every 5-7,000 miles instead of 10. Thoughts?????

Also, I was wondering if this is harmful to the engine. Should I seafoam it or something???

Going to change my oil this weekend and pick up some other things and saw your post. Still on the stock fuel filter at 25K and added it to my list. Couldn't find the maintenance interval for the filter in the owners manual so looked up fuel filter replacement in my helms. Couldn't believe what I read. "Important: There is not a service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace a restricted fuel filter." Uh, they can't be serious. Am I missing something here? I'd like to keep the car moving and the fuel pump happy so going to replace it.

It won't hurt anything to change it more often. I do mine once a year, in the fall so I don't end up with water in it that could freeze during the winter. They are made to trap gunk and still allow fluid flow. You could probably change it even more often and still find crap inside.

I changed mine once after 40,000+ miles, didn't notice any build up or nothing...as long as you use good gas (Shell, Chevron, etc.) you should be good for at least 30k.

80k miles before i changed mine...no increase in performance after.

I would say anything more than every 30k is bit overkill.
Anything more than every 15k is ridiculous unless you are having a fuel related issue.
