Want to get rid of the power antenna
Just wonder what you can replace it with. I would like to get rid of it all together. Cannot stand it going up and down all the time, just waiting for it to brake. Are there any kits that relocate it inside the veh to a different type of antenna?

Ford's better idea was to place a switch on the dash next to the radio stack. That way you could regulate how high you wanted the antenna to go. Ford also gave you the option of whether or not you wanted to use the automatic headlights on device. Didn't like their cruise control though cause you had to turn the damn thing on every time you started the car. But their self dimming rear view mirror worked great.
Oh well , you can't have everything I guess. Horsepower [is] more important.

I put a power one on my car too. I keep the ground unpluged. I dont listen to the radio, I got it to make it easy to put my car cover on and off. Not to mention its a much cleaner look. If anyone wants a power antenna from GM, I can get a deal on one for ya, just PM me.

My motor stopped working and would make noise every time i would turn the key so I unplugged it but I was tired of the huge ugly mast sticking out of my rear quarter panel. So we pushed it down but I got absolutely horrible reception. So I bought a shorty antenna online for $20 shipped and it looks great and works as good if not better than stock.

I was thinking, could you just remove the factory one and wire up one for under the top portion of the rear hatch (under the glass inside the car)? You would have to mess with it to make it look okay but would it get crap for reception? Guess I got something to mess with unless someone has tried already and it did not work.

My other car has the antenna built into the rear defrost and it gets poor reception and has the same problem as Marc 85Z28 had and it is designed to be seperate from the defroster (I'll have to look into that isolator). I am going to ask my alarm and stereo guy to put a swtch in for the antenna because I feel the same way you do about it wearing out. It sure sounds like it will because it is loud! I don't like the fact that it goes up when my CD player is on either, which is mostly what I listen to. John.
