Default Whine!!!Please help

My 99 Formula has been whining at lower speeds and increases when turning. Power steering fluid is at proper level. Could the power steering pump still be going out even if the fluid has not been leaking? it is hard to locate exact location of the whining source, but it may also be coming from the throttle body area. I did replace the throttle body gasket not to long ago. Any suggestions? This whine is really pissing me off!!!

Thanks.............

Kurt

My PS pump does this too. I flushed it out, and filled it up with some good ATF and that seemed to make it much quieter, but it will still whine sometimes. It has been makin this noise for a long time, well over a year so I think you are fine as far as failure is concerned, but if the noise is annoying I think to totally get rid of it you will need to replace the pump.

Also, mine seems to vary with heat...I'm thinking about bypassing the in-hose power steering "cooler", because all I think it is good for is heating the fluid which makes it whine more.

Does it get louder/worse when you turn?

I was thinking that the ps pump might have to go. I will do a search here for any tips on removing it, although after looking at it it seems easy enough. Any suggestions that anyone could throw out though would help. Thanks again

RoDAN, have you bypassed the power steering cooler yet? I was thinking the same thing about it heating the fluid, but was not sure. Just wondering what your results were...

Or maybe try some good additive that may clear the noise but it is just a patch anyways!!!

I had the the same problem one day.... I needed to get new tires for a safety inspection after I moved. So I decided to have some fun, and burn out the old ones. After about 20 donuts, I figured I should leave the church parking lot before I attracted too much attention (it was Sunday). And I had the horrible noise... but after about 20 mins, it went away. In hind sight, I guess doing all those donuts at once and keeping all the fluids pushed to one side, probably wasn't great for the car. But she likes the abuse.
