I got turned on to SuperLube, which is recommended in the factory service manual. It has worked really well for me and lasts a long time. Its a PTFE lubricant, which will not wash away like WD-40 or other regular oils will.

SuperLube also comes in a "Precision Oiler" (picture attached) which has a special tip for things like hinges. (It also works well for wet location hinges inside the house, like bathroom doors.)

Where do they sell it?

I've tried WD-40, lasted one week. I've tried white grease and it lasted a couple weeks, I also tried 3-N-1, didn't last.

3-N-1 wears off just like the WD-40. They are also solvents, so they tend to disolve rust and create goo. (then you no longer have an oiled surface)

The only place I've seen the SuperLube Precision Oiler has been at Menard's - maybe also at Ace or a local HVAC shop, but I don't recall exactly... You can also do a google search and find it online at a lot of places.

Mine is squeaking/groaning when I open the door too. Irritates me, sounds like a bad door on an old beat-up car..... wait, my car is fairly beat up....

UPDATE on what works perfectly.

I simply poured a cap full of engine motor oil on top of each hinge and let it drip and run down through the entire hinge. Hasn't made a peep in almost 4 weeks and its still nice and wet all around the hinges.

Pretty funny!

I drenched mine with WD-40 a couple times, only worked for a few days.

Motor oil is awesome. The doors swing open effortlessly now and they're finally silent.
