ASR Questions
1) How does it work? I know that it tries to push the pedal back up. But when you dont let the pedal come back does it mess with timing, fuel, etc?
2) I was told that when you put a resistor in one of the wires running to the ASR button, the "ASR OFF" light comes on (on dash) and stays on even when the button is pushed. Is this a good way to permanently remove ASR or will it effect something else? In other words, does disabling the button alone eliminate ASR without effecting timing, fuel?
Thanks in advance!

I believe the ASR removes timing from the car in attempt to regain traction, so that even if you keep your foot in it, you won't go anywhere fast until the tires grip again. I call it my Honda Civic button, as it can transform my V8 into a lawnmower engine. For the record, I drive with ASR off, cause I can.
I don't know anything about resistors and the ASR system, so I'm gonna skip that part.

I like to have fun during my daily commute.
No offense, but I started this thread looking for answers not opinions on when ASR should be used...
To simplify my questions, with the resistor in the ASR switch ("ASR Off") do I need to worry about the car pulling timing on me or throwing a code? It just seems to easy.

Its does multiple things.. first it pulls timing. then it backs off throttle.. and I believe as a last stitch effort it applies a little rear brakes. you can stop it from pulling timing with any laptop based tuning software packages but the brakes and throttle limit are all done through the BCM which is not tunable.
As far as the bypassing I don't know. I'm used to hitting by button every time I get in my car.

I hope that you guys can help
I just got a 2001 z-28 camaro with 68k miles on it. I drove it home and noticed that my ASR OFF light on the gauge as well as my service engine soon light is on. I dont really know much about them and i dont even know what ASR means or what it does. If anyone could at least point me in the right direction, i would greatly appreciate it.

It's called TCS on my Trans Am but it must be the same in the Camaro. You can buy a reverse switch that plugs in behind the control button. It changes the default to always off until you hit the switch and turn it on.
