Default 4" dumped at the axle

I've been racking exhaust options back and forth in my head, and lately one has been standing out as a decent option: Just put a muffler in the I pipe and dump it. FYI, I've got a 4" Flowmaster merge on my pacesetter Y pipe (great ground clearance). Obviously, ground clearance is going to be sacraficed if I go this route, and yes I do plan on lowering the car in the future, so I was thinking about my options on the muffler. Borla makes a nice looking 4" XR-1 that is 4.5" tall and available in several lengths. Dynatech makes a few too, but from what I gather they are VERY loud, something I would kinda like to stay away from. So, I may be asking the impossible: Fairly quiet and decent ground clearance. Flow isnt going to be an issue Any muffler recommendations would be freakin awesome. The quieter the better. This would also be a very light weight exhaust system

Fairly quiet really isn't a factor when you dump it. Is this going on your DD?

DD... for now. I have my Hooker muffler with no tail pipes on it, not turned down but just out. Its mellow inside, not really loud. One day the car will hopefully be a nasty FI monster... leaning toward the autocross world. I enjoy the dumped sound, but just don't really want to increase the volume a whole lot. I imagine having the 4" turndown would make for a really deep tone. Another option I thought of was the cone insert. Still need a muffler idea though.

Dynatech's Split Flow 4" muffler is 4.5" tall and 14" long. About $100 cheaper than the borla. I am thinking this muffler combined with the cone/turndown would make for an awesome setup. Does anyone have experience with the 4" Splitflow? Howbout the cone?

How about the Spintech oval 4"? I know its a spintech, and they arent exactly known for their superior flow qualities, but its all oval tubing! They have an oval transition, the 4" oval inlet, then a 4" oval dump. And its all 3.5" tall!!!! The muffler would actually be higher up than my Y pipe merge. hmmm... I need some input on this PM me if you would like the links to the products I speak of.

Sounds good man. What I am looking for is a 4" muffler though, and one that isnt going to create the see-saw effect when I drive over a speed bump.

Does anyone other than Spintech make a muffler with oval inlet/exits?
