Default engine mount not bolting back on

after unbolting the driver side engine mount and jacking the engine to slip a longtube header in, the engine mount will not bolt back in place... the bolts just refuse to catch the thread. has anyone else had a similar problem like this? I tried a search but did not find anything.

I gotta get it running soon so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes its a pain in the ***. I replaced my motor mounts completely with prothane ones and it was seriously a PITA to get them to start again. Just keep playing around with it and moving the motor around until you get them to start. You will eventually get them.

If you haven't already, remove the long bolt that goes through the center before trying to bolt the top half back to the block.

Did you attach the clamshell assembly from the block? Or did you pull the long 18mm bolt from the middle? If you took everything completely off the block, take out the long bolt in the middle and bolt the clamshell to the block. Then try to realign the motor and slip the long bolt back through. If you have difficulty realigning the motor (Like I did ), grind the end of the bolt to a point and tap it with a hammer and it should go right back in.

Good luck!

I am trying to bolt the bottom half of the mount back onto the frame while it is still attached to the engine block. for some reason its not matching up with the screw holes anymore. I'm gonna blast everything with some PB blaster and see if that helps at all, if that does not do it then I am going to jack the block and then relower it again.

**update** I was able to get ONE of the bolts in finally, now I just need to get the opposite corner and hopefully that should allign the other two holes... my god what a PITA this was..

**BUMP**

I've still been unable to get the other 3 damn bolts to catch thread properly... I even tried starting the engine to shake the mount into place and still no luck. At this point im thinking of just taking the car to a shop and have them do it. Will it be ok to drive the car to the shop with only one of the bolts fulley bolted in properly? its about a 20 min drive and a m6 tranny so I'd keep the revs down below 3000 the whole time.

damm thats a big bitch! you have to use a crow bar and maybe even hammer in the bolt!
when doing this again if you dont want to loose the alignment of the bolt just raise it enough with the bolt still through the hole but loose, and then remove the motor mount that way so that its easier and you dont mess with aligning it again

From what i understand is that you unbolted it from the frame? you have to remove the long threw bolt to get them four to start and after you tighten them you can put the long bolt in.

I told him to do this in the beginning but he's not listening.

It will, and you will need to remove the alternator or at least take it loose and move it out of the way a bit. Getting the long bolt back in is a little tricky but when you get to this point, just make sure you have it lined up as close as possible by moving the motor up and down with the jack until you find the right spot. Then it should go back in with just a little work.

And make sure you disconnect the battery before removing the alternator.

exactly it will work. If you have to grind the long bolt to a point. Some people do that too, but if you work with it i should slide right back in.
