was wondering which of the two plugs were better and maybe some reasons to support your opinion:

Ditto... If you have a few more dollars, go for the NGK iridiums.

so for someone runnin' real close to stock trim, is there any benefit/difference between the NGK TR55's and the NGK Iridium's?

No. The Iridiums only real feature over the Coppers is that they last longer.

Copper = Better conductor of electricity.

Any fine wire electrode, like iridium, will jump the spark gap with much less voltage. You can run the iridiums with either a wider gap, or higher compression. For close to stock specs, the main feature is better durability. Unless the car has problems, you won't notice a difference. If you run into coil or plug wire issues later, the iridiums may prolong the onset of big problems.

Just go with the TR55s. I run those and MSD wires.

You guys know you can mess up the secondary ignition on the car by changing plug voltages and resistances (gap) right?
