Default The Right Exhaust

I have been doing a lot of reading lately and have come down to three choices for my exhaust. I can’t decide between SLP Loudmouth, Electric Cutout, or GMMG chambered exhaust. I wanted some input from people who know more on this topic. I don’t want to spend a lot of money then wish I had gone with something diff. As for my car I drive a stock 2000 Firehawk, in a year or two I plan on running headers if that makes any difference. (Once the warranty goes out) Thanks for the help!

I'm getting a Magnaflow cat back this weekend for $300.11. I'll post my review on it when I get it installed. I can't wait.

If you like loud then get Loudmouth. I would recomend getting something like borla (Non adjustable) and the nget the Borla Y-pipe and duel QTECs, you can't go wrong. Great tone, and non loud cruise, then you want to be loud press a button and you louder then you can even imagine.

I gotta say, the GMMG is a HIGH demand item. I haven't heard one person say they don't like the sound of it. Granted, it is a lot of money, and it might be hard to take the advice from me, seeing as I don't have one, but a close friend of mine has one with LTs and an ORP, and it still doesn't lose the high quality tone. I can't say enough good things about the chambered style exhaust.

I wont disagree with Pimpmaro on the GMMG exhaust but the Hooker Catback sounds damn good and is somewhat cheaper.

If you're going to get headers, keep your dual/dual for now and just get a cutout. I've got headers and an offroad y on my Firehawk and find it to be a great sound. I've got a cutout too in case I want to get real crazy and for the drag strip.

I heard one with headers and my exhaust yesterday and I am going to do that, I think its the most cost-effective way for me to go.

The dual-dual is real hard to beat flow wise. Others flow better but not by much. Sound wise it is not as loud as some but with headers it is very stealthy. Loud at WOT but good for driving around. Plus it is already on the car might as well be a free mod. My two cent's.

Do NOT even consider a LM if you're planning on doing headers. Pimpmaro is right. GMMG sounds great. It's expensive and it's difficult to get your hands on it. The Hooker catback is a nice alternative. My suggestion is to keep your dual/dual and get the headers. You don't even need the cutout really since the dual/dual flows so well. You will gain a bit with a cutout though.

I have a GMMG and I get nothing but good compliments on the sound but a cutout and keeping your dual dual would be the way to go and will also save a lot of money.

As much as I like the GMMG exhaust, I agree with SS Rally Red and unit213. The Hooker is a great sounding, low-cost catback. What's really nice about it is that at the track you can drop the whole muffler portion and save a ton of weight and free up the flow of the exhaust. However, it's a bit tricky to do when it's hot as hell from the drive down to the track. I also agree with unit and carbon on keeping the dual/dual and getting a cutout. You've got lots of options, pick what you feel really fits you.

Hey fellas just got a 98 z28, looking to change the catback, im not going to do a bunch of mods as my budget islimited but i can get a hooker catback for around $240. Do they sound good with just the stock y pipe and headers? All im looking for is a little more growl and perhaps a lil bit more performance. Im not expecting much though. you're help would be greatly appreciated, im new to the GM family.
Thanks fellas

I think you would be more than satisfied with the Hooker cat-back. It will sound good woth the stock manifolds and y, and if you do LTs & ORY down the road, it will only sound even better. $240 is a great price. Where abouts did you find such a good deal?

they are on sale for a week at a local parts store for 266.29 and i get a percentage off of that because i have a coupon :-) ima college boy, thrift-parts shopping is my specialty. so Hooker is a good catback? i had flowmaster catbacks on my mustang a few times, always rattled like a bitch, does the hooker catback fit pretty well? should i get all the connecting pipes welded?
thats enough of 20 questions for now, thanks and do the dude that has the daily driver who started the thread...i heard a "daily driver" with a loudmouth on a 00 SS, i woulnd't suggest it. ***** too loud for driving aroudn town. hope that helps some. hence why i've decided to steer away from the loudmouth.
thanks fellas

Yes, Hooker is a good cat-back. Great sound, and you can't beat the price (especially the price you are getting) with a stick.

Mine fit great, and never had a rattling problem. I would go ahead and get the connection tack welded at least (except for at the y-pipe, of course).

Enjoy!

I'm having the hardest time deciding between the Magnaflow or Hooker catback. I heard the Magnaflow flows better than the hooker, is this true?
