Default Need some help with header decision...

Hey guys whats up, im new to the forum, ive got a 01 z28 with LM exhaust, im looking into headers(pacesetter or something in that price range) and off road y pipe. First off will the cops bother me about it? And will inspection check for cats? I know i can go with the O2 sims. And any rec. on headers around a low price range would really help. Thanks guys!

What kind of "inspection" you talking about?
What state? Do they emission test? ETC.
The cops wont bother you unless if you run around with a cutout.

well there really isnt anything in pacesetters price range...they are rock bottom not to say the quality isnt there though...as far as cops go depends on how the area is some have cops that wanna be dicks and then youll get some that will pull you over cuz they like your car and just wanna talk which is cool unless you need to be somewhere...your **** will be loud though...i dunno about tx and their inspection process but i know here in nj they are supposed to inspect for them. I think the next price up is hooker but they are the same friggin headers just 100 bucks more lol.

Ditto on the LT's! As for cops, don't get on it and you'll be fine. And as for fines, the only way you'll get a fine in Texas is if you run around w/o and inspection. My advice? Get your car reinspected the day before you put the headers on, then spend the time 'till it expires finding a friendly inspection shop.

I think the only different view is from someone who does not own a LS1 F-body. These cars are restricted from the factory and LT's in no way are over kill. Do the header mod right the first time. Honestly look at pictures of any LT and then JBA and tell me which is the better choice for power. Quit listening to OLD gearheads that know little about these cars.

I say get the hookers! You can get a catted y pipe also if you are worried about inspections.

I was concerned about the ground clearance issue also, since my car is lowered. The research I did revealed that it really depends on which LTs you get; not all of them hang low. SLP's hang low. QTP's seem to be one of the best, and that's what I have on order. Click on their logo over on the right; they have some pics that show very good ground clearance with their headers. BTW, I should add, if you get LTs that tuck up tight and don't hang too low, you run the risk of hearing them bang the floor boards once in a while. I have noticed you can address this problem by replacing one of the motor mounts with a polyureathane mount, since the banging comes from the engine twisting on it's mounts.

i got me some hooker LT and that was the best investment i have made to this day. You don't have need 02 sims if you have cats. 02 sims trick your cars computer into thinking that it has cats and it does not trigger off any codes. As far as getting your car from one place to the other, try getting all the work done at one place if possible. by the way my headers don't hang down low at all i put custom true duals, a Dr. Gas X (X-pipe) and 12 inch bullets and its pretty quite until you romp on the pedal. Ground clearance is not an issue.

I thougt the o2 simms told your computer you have O2 sensors so ur computer would not take a big dump. So could I get hooker LT's with a catted y pipe and just reuse the stock 02 sensors

The rear O2's do nothing more than alow the PCM to tell if the cats are working or not. So without cats, the PCM would throw a SES unless you replace the rear O2s with O2 sims.
