Default GM redesign valve cover gasket?

usually see them in a greyish color, with a round bead to seal.
ive got a new set from gm and they are black. dont look anything like the past sets ive dealt with. they appear to be of a harder material.
ive yet to open them, just kinda curious.

Yeah, when I ordered mine they were the same black material... of course one of them was pressed wrong or something.. the 3 indentions on one side were pressed the wrong way... I went to a local dealer and got another one and it was the old gray soft material.

I always found it was a pain in the *** to get the soft rubber ones to seat properly. But once I did, they sealed fine. Just curious if the new ones are easier to install.

seat as in seal to the head, or just get it seated in the valve cover itself.
i always push it towards itself as i work it in the track. seems to work better, or the gasket ends up being to long, and then you have to pull it all the way back out or fight it some more.

The newer ones are easier to get in the valve cover.

Thats funny...I always had the exact opposite problem with older SBC's...the old GM gaskets were just a little too short to stay seated in the cheeseball stamped steel valvecovers on those engines (like LT1's).

I have found the black LSx gaskets from GM are real easy to install, and they seal really well.

That's exactly how I do it, and have the same problem. I end up finally getting them to seat, but it's usually after some choice words.

I ordered not too long ago. The part number I had I thought was two gaskets but it was for only one. The first gasket I got was grey and the second I got was black. I used the same # each time but the second one I got had a different part number on the bag.
