I've got a very loud setup on my car:
3.5 oval dual exhaust
3.5 oval inlet Flowmaster low profile mufflers http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cg...ml?id=26AjUYH6
No dumps
These mufflers are very loud.
So I was talking to Ron at Spintech, he said he could make me semi-custom 3.5 oval inlet/ 3" round outlet Spintech Sportsman XL's, which would be much quieter. I'd also fab up an H-pipe. I would not do an X-pipe it might be $400-500 to do it in 3.5 oval pipe when an H-pipe will cost me $50.
He said the XL's would be as loud as 50 series Flow's, anyone know?
My current Flow's have one baffle, and very short, and are as loud as one chamber Flows.

I have a custom spintech 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust system with a x-pipe and im running the 3" sportsman XL mufflers. ITs LOUD. Now this is on a 409 cid LT4 with FLP longtubes and no cats. They do sound much better then flowmasters.

Do you know which 50 was Ron w/Spintech referring to when he said that?
The 50 delta flow is tame in my opinion especially for a race car. I had them on my Malibu (3" duals off Hooker LT's) and they were near legal with turn downs before the axle. The noise level wasn't too bad inside if the turn downs were angled out toward the sides of the vehicle. My stripped bare interior would resonate like a drum if they were pointed straight down. The 50 low profile will probably be louder than the delta flow because the case is smaller.
If you are not running an H-Pipe right now you can expect the sound level to drop around 2db( from my experience) when you do install it. If that is enough of a difference for you towith you might want to try that first.
What does your current system look like as installed?

Mike, are those the 16" long mufflers?
Lerajie, I have Kook's 1.875>2.000 step headers with 3.5 collectors. I have 3.5 round to oval dual exhaust, and the mufflers are about 5 inches from the rearend. I have no tips right now... Now I already had dual exhaust on the car before and tried a few different setups, and I can safely say that my current setup is barely muffler, it's like tuned open headers. I added an H-pipe to the old setup and swapped on some new mufflers and it made a huge difference but my ground clearance was pretty bad.
Mike let me know becauese if you have the 16" long one and they are loud I'm not gonna get them.

I have a couple of the sportsman street series mufflers on my duals, part number is Sportsman Street 3443, These mufflers can be controlled so that cruising on a highway doesnt make you go mad, it also has a real nice sound to it on part throttle and on WOT, The sportsman xl's that you are getting I think are even quieter than the sportsman streets that I have so I say go for it as long as it doesn't restrict flow any. FWIW my car is not quiet though but it does sound good and the drone is controllable at highway speeds.

Here is a recap of what I have had that's relevant...
69 z/28, 3" duals, 2 chamber flows, dumps = not bad at all
98 formula, 3" duals, dynomax bullets, dumped straight down = loud and cackly
98 formula, 3" duals, H piped it, 3" Borla XR1's, dumped straigt down = moderately loud and sounded very tuned
98 formula, 3.5 oval duals, 3.5 inlet race flows, no tips = 80% of open headers and might be louder as bullets
Now I am willing to try those Spintechs, but at $300 for the pair I need some assurances that they will be like XR1 loud but no louder. The Spintech race mufflers are too loud, they would be as loud as what I have now.
Otherwise the whole exhaust comes off and I am doing a 3.5 ORP with dual cutouts and a big 3.5 Ultraflow barrel muffler dumped at the rearend.

I don't mean to be a trash-talker here, but something to be aware of with the Spintech's is the flow. I'm not sure which series of Spintech I had (which ever one comes with the Mufflex setup), but I lost a SERIOUS amount of power through the muffler (single 4"). I was down @30 hp and @25 ft/lb through the Spintech when compared to open headers. I replaced the 4" Spintech w/ a 5" Borla XR1, and my numbers jumped up significantly (read: my full exhaust power numbers are now 3 hp down from open headers).
It may work differently for you, since you're looking at dual 3.5" oval exhaust (as opposed to single 4"); just something to be aware of, is all.

That is a concern for me.
Right now I am still leaning towards a cheap H pipe and a set of 16" long Spintech Sportsman XL's, I think I will just clamp them so I can try running with and without them.

Thanks, guys. I also found oval tubing at Spintech http://www.spintechmufflers.com/spin...ntechindex.asp
They seem to have better prices than Dr. Gas, and even have 4 inch oval!
