removing AC questions

removing AC questions im about to pull my compressor off (probably tomorrow), and i was wondering a few things about the AC in general
today, i stuck an allen head into the valve on the radiator looking thing for the AC, and fully released all the pressure into the air.
Do i still need to do it for the aluminum bottle thing(that octagon containor)? I can get a hose to route the gases and liquid away if i need to
this is my first time ever getting near the AC on any car, so is it supposed to be rust colored when it comes out?

Re: removing AC questions you vented refrigerant to the atmosphere shame on you, not a good thing to post on a public forum ie that's illegal like getting long tube headers. sounds like you picked up some moisture along the way don't worry about it.

that was my pet midget, he somehow learned how to type, and leaned how to lie
what about the canister, does it need to be emptied before i start yanking stuff the compressor and lines out?
or would it be empty after what i did the first time?

Re: removing AC questions yeah, shame on that midget. A midget did that to my car too. You bring up a good question though. My compressor has been off the car for a while and I'm wondering if the dryer needs to be replaced. My BMW tech neighbor said I need a new dryer. Any validity? Can I drain it?
