I have PaceSetter longtubes on my '98 SS and there are no issues on clearance.
Also, they're probably the same price as mids, and you get better performance!

Go with some LPP's longtubes + ory for $600 shipped. Best bang for the buck.

What's yer location?!?
That will help determine if you can even go to LT's, or even the mid's like the Mac.

Opinions on headers are going to be like 'Pepsi', 'Coke', 'Mountain Dew', ..., Everyone has a different opinion. There is no 'Best Choice'. There are many choices. Way too many, ..., & cost will help determine how far ya go too.

Most people will say don't waste yer time with the Mac's & go striaght to the Long Tubes. But the Mac's will make power also.

Another question would be, what is your intention? Daily driver? Weekend racer? Driven only to the grocery store & back on the second Tuesday of the month?

Well it depends what you're looking for...

Honestly I didn't even know they still made the MAC mid-length's for our cars. They were big back in the day when LT choices were grim, poor fitting and hung very low. Now with the REALLY nice LT choices we have there really is no reason to bother with a mid-length. Do a search on here, if you want top-notch you'll see that American Racing Headers is where it's at. The fit & finish on them is above and beyond the others, you get what you pay for with this stuff, do it right the first time.

Yes, there are much cheaper options out there, but they are exactly that...a much cheaper made unit that has nowhere near the same quality.

I have Hooker Super comps without egr and I love 'em. No issues with clearance even with the sportline drop!

Kooks are my choice...fit great, have a merge collector, and an extra O2 bung for wideband tuning. Plus we have some great deals like free coating or call for lower pricing.

Check out our sale here. We also have great prices on pacesetter.

I have PaceSetter "Armor Coated" long tubes from Texas Speed. They fit perfectly. I paid $360 + shipping. Still under $400 to my door. No clearance issuses, and they still look brand new. Installed Late march '07. I would suggest buying some 18" long O2 extensions. my 24" ones are too long and the wires that come with the headers are BS. Jack your car up high enough and they slide in with NO clearance issues! Oh, and if you go with any LT headers, you'll have to either get a Y-pipe or have an exhaust shop mate them to your exhaust. Not sure about the mid length ones.
