Porting LS6 Intake
hey guys,
i know sponsors porting FAST intakes, and ive heard of ported LS6 intakes... due to funds, ill go with the latter
LS6's go for 300 but i havent seen a ported one for a while.. so how do you do it?
i have a dremel, i just dont know what needs to be ported
if anyone has pictures of how to do it, ideas, walk through, anything?

seems to be more people talking or asking about porting them than actually trying to port them.
not sure there is much to really port....other than maybe opening up the mouth to allow for an 80mm TB.
keep it stock or go FAST

I kinda agree. There isn't a lot you can remove from a 3mm thick casting. The chances are higher that you'll mess it up and have to replace it than getting any measurable increase in power. At $300 a pop, that is most likely the reason you aren't hearing from many people who have successfully ported them.

3mm casting is kinda thin... but port matching has got to be good for some power... anyone know the thickness of ls2 intakes? they port the shyt out of them lol

you could cut the 90 mm mouth of a JY ls2 intake and epoxy it to the ls6 intake... (its what tpis does and sells as a 90 mm ls6) its suposed to outflow a fast up to 5500 rpm port-matching and porting the ls2/ls6 transition will do good too.. ;-)

doon't think they "outflow" the fast...maybe flow similar, and that's an unported fast.
ported the fast don't have much competition.
i wouldn't bother messing with the ls6....and even the ported ls2 intakes are just keeping up with the ls6 i think.

I've heard of people opening the mouth of 78mm Fast intakes to 85mm and using PP 85mm TB's I would think that the same could be done with an ls6 intake since the tpis is flowing great with a 90mm mod it's only a 5mm difference and cheaper if I had a LS6 intake this would be the option I would choose over a ported stock TB and porting the 85mm TB should increase flow even more makes sense to me but then again just another option to think about.

i bought a ls2 and am going to run it look at this article and compare the ls2 to the 90mm ls6 tpis does (keep in mind the ls2 is unported and no tune changes when they swaped intakes)

ok so i started looking into the ls2 intake idea, and the BIG hole in the idea is the TB- 300 is the cheapest you can do so 300+ 150 for the intake+ 275 for the porting= 725 which for a 90/90 is good, but i dont NEED it...
what i noticed is the 85mm TBs are only 160... sell my pp 78mm for say 60 and itll only cost me 100.... BUT can the ls6 intake be ported enough to accept an 85mm tb?
i hate it when i come up with an idea and realize it wasnt MY idea lmaooooo

highly doubt the ls6 can be opened up to 85mm. otherwise you'd see it done.
as for your realization on the "cost" to run the 90......thats kindda been our point all along.
its just not that "cheap" of a mod.
might as well just save up a little longer and get the FAST

people like simplicity, so innovation takes a long time to catch up, im just bouncing around ideas.... if the ls2 TB can work on an ls1, you can have an intake that flows close to a FAST for cheap, but i highly doubt the TB will work
the only reason its not as "cheap" as most would like it to be is ecause of the TB, ported ls2 can be had for under $400... TB alone costs 300+...... UNLESS an 85mm can be ported to 90 hmmmmm

Opening an LS6 to 85mm has been done but when ever the question is asked about an 85mm TB most people just say stick with a ported TB which I agree with if your going to use the spacer that comes with the 85mm TB that bottle necks down to 75mm to fit the stock opening but if you have the tools I think that opening the mouth of an LS6 to 85mm and using a ported 85mm TB should make power over a LS6 with a ported stock TB
since the TPIS 90mm LS6 is making good power and its only a 5mm difference again If I had an Ls6 intake I would try this mod I'm not trying to push this mod on anyone just throwing another option out there.
