So whats better a ss hood or a cowl hood for performence on the 1/4 and on the streets

There is no performance benefit for eaither except the cowl will help reduce under hood temps.

but isn't the ss hood better since it let air go to the lid and give it more horse power

the SS ram air setup is not very effective.

an aftermarket cai will give more gains than the SS hood. something like the SSRA.

From what I understand the base of the windshield is typically a high pressure location. The original idea behind adding a cowl hood was to have air shoved into a sealed air cleaner housing which gave you not only colder air, but easier to digest air (because of the slight pressure increase). I think NASCAR used to use sealed aircleaners vented directly into the cowling to take advantage of the high pressure, but I could be wrong.

Your hood doesn't matter. If you got one thats 50 or 60lbs lighter than stock it might be a minor gain. Don't waste money on a hood unless your getting one for free.
