ASP pulley and double roller timing chains...
Ok, Don Lees is building my LS1 up for my 69 Camaro and I want to run the ASP pully like I had on my 2000 SS.. but I would also like to run a double roller timing chain.
Question: Do I have to order a special ASP pulley to do this? And if so why dont I ever see this listed on sponsors websites (they always just show the one pulley)..
Thanks in advance..

the double roller had a recess like cone on the pulley side. if you measure the stock gear and the double roller gear, you will see that the surface that the pulley sits on is the same height.

How the 'world'* can it depend on the engine? Maybe a diff between the pulleys between vettes and Fbods, but from fbody to fbody it should be the same damn thing. How can there be a diff?

Right, and that is why all F-bodies run exactly 13.2 from the factory and make 305hp, or whatever GM rates them at. Please, if you don't think engines vary on outside tolerances just as much as inside tolerances, then you need to learn a little more before you make a reply like that. Here is the bottom line...I didn't have to machine mine, so even if every other person running this combo did, there is not a rule that says "When using a double-roller timing chain, you MUST machine an ASP pulley."

And I didn't have to mill mine either, but obviously some people have.

Re: ASP pulley and double roller timing chains...
If you can get them to mill it b4 shipping, I would def do that. The time differential between most of these stock cars is going to be 99% driver. The hp diff is going to be an entirely internal thing. What is the factory tolerance that would be causing this problem? Both pieces in question are aftermarket. Is something about the crankshaft, maybe something about the positioning of the stop for the timing sprocket??

I have a feeling that it depends on the Double Roller Chain. I used the Rollmaster from SDPC and did not have to mill anything off my ASP pulley. Who knows everyone seems to have different experiences in this area.

Re: ASP pulley and double roller timing chains...
Wy would you have to mill it???
is iit not made to the same spec as the stock pulley...with the exception of the diamater and radius???
saying they didnt make them rigt is like saying that the stock pulley would not fit back on properly after a double timing chain install...
they wouldnt let you buy a double chain without a special pulley if that was the case....
somebody take some pictures of why it wont work....take some with the timing cover off so we can see why...take pictures of what it looks like with the cover on....show me the money...

Re: ASP pulley and double roller timing chains...
If you're worried and don't want to mill. Run a single roller, no need to worry.
i wouldn't run a double unless I'm over 550fwhp anyway. Double rollers are very tight for the street and with time they wear out front cam bearings.M2Bits.
