Default Exhaust leak impact??

The ORY on my car has a bunch of exhaust leaks and I've been debating if it'll be worth the expense $$$ to replace it or have it fixed! Do numerous exhaust leaks on the y-pipe really make a big negative impact on it's performance? I mean why would leaks hurt it much if an open cutout helps it? Illuminate me guys!

Well, how far back are the leaks? IMHO, I'm thinking the impact on your performance would be minimal, and really just hurting the sound to be honest. I bet it has a tic-tic-tic sound right? Sure, the holes are hurting your velocity, but if they are far enough back I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if there are several and they are larger holes (and/or close to the headers), why not fix it or get a new Y pipe?

The cutout works because it is such a large "leak" and al in one spot. You would have to get into fluid dynamics to explain why it works, just know it works. Random little holes will ultimately hurt velocity, because they are not all collected at the end of the pipe. Think of it is like having a straw with pin holes down the length of it and a small opening at the end (representing the muffler's restriction) now, get a straw with no holes in the length, and and one big opening. Which is easiest to blow through? Why his best exhaust velocity? Point it, dont owrry about the leaks unless you want every little bit of HP. i'd worry about the leaks because it is just ghetto to have holes all in your pipe! lol

My ORY has minor holes in it and you can't really hear them cuz of my cam's lope. But I still know they're there and it annoys me!

JMO but don't think it's hurting performance if no codes are being thrown. Exhaust leaks 6-12" from an 02 can cause codes. If the cutout is behind the rear seat like mine it's so far away from the sensors no codes.

unless its close to the headers or o2 sensors i wouldnt really worry about it. All it is doing is making noise.

If it's at least 12" downstream from the O2's then no. It's just going to sound bad...

Come to think of it, its throwing the codes for the O2's and I just replaced them. Some of the exhaust leaks are next to the O2 sensor u guys think thats why the service engine light is on?

if they are close enough to your first set of O2's then they can be getting clean air from outside and making it think it is running lean and will give it more fuel.

Come next pay day I'm taking it to the muffler shop to fix these leaks! Hopefully that'll be the reason its throwing them codes!
