Default Autometer oil press sender question. Need help.

Where is everyone putting their sender units? I was thinking I could use the stock location but am not sure it will fit. I don't need the stock unit also. Thank for any help.

On the pontiac GTO LS1 there's a small plate that comes off and is replaced by one with a fitting for the sender to screw in.

you can buy an adapter to make it fit in the stock location. autometer part number 2268 is what you want. it'll run you about $11.

DaddySS: Is there any drilling and tapping involved? Where is this plate located? Any pics?
Jhubbs: Thanks I'll look into this too.

I'm trying to find a picture of the block to show you but it is on the drivers side front near the oil pan.

the part circled in red can be drilled/tapped to accept a pressure sending unit, like the one circled in yellow. this will be on the driver's side of the pan above the oil filter

I believe the sender is 1/8" NPT, but the gauge should include a 1/4" NPT adapter. So you can drill/tap it 1/8" NPT, or 1/4" NPT and use the adapter.

A 1/8" NPT tap uses a "Q" drill bit. If you can't find a Q bit, I think you can use a 21/64" bit instead.

A 1/4" NPT tap uses a 7/16" drill bit.

If it were me, I'd drill and tap for 1/4" NPT and use the adapter since finding a Q drill bit will be a hassle.

I had to use a 90degree brass fitting and an autometer adapter to get the unit to work in the stock place on my Ls1, the on the top of the black rear of the intake, the unit wouldn't clear the stock intake runner. you might have problems in f-bodys though, mine was a swap appliaction, no cowl to work around

That picture above is how I have mine. It clears Hooker headers, but I've seen other headers that may not be as forgiving. It is a PITA to access with the header in place though!
