Question Had SLP Loudmouth 1...added Kooks Longtubes...Annoyed.

So when I first bought my car I didn't think I was going to be modding it very much, so I decided to buy the SLP Loudmouth 1 setup because it sounded great with stock manifolds and cats...

Last year I decided to buy an LS6 intake, port my throttle body, Kooks longtubes and Y-pipe, Level 4 FLT Transmission, and a Yank SS3600 stall converter. I now hate how loud my exhaust is all the time. I literally scare the **** out of people when I first start it up, and people in my subdivision hate it in the morning.

What would you guys recommend? Buy a different cat back? Replace the resonator?

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks for your help in advance.

Sell the cat back. Put the stock one on and put an ele. cutout on the car. I did the same thing. I can now enjoy the car.

You could put a borla or magnaflow muffler in place of the lm1 resonater, or (buy the slp powerflo conversion kit) and that will take care of it. go on youtube and do a search on Detoxx03 and you'll here his car, except his is H/C and will be a touch louder than yours. I just sold one and my car was real deep sounding, but not loud.

I know where you are coming from. I have ARHs with a
LM without the resonators. Lucky enough for me its not a DD.

... If you happen to sell your LM let me know, id like to find one in good shape.

Thanks for the advice. I have tossed around the idea of replacing the resonator, but I am still unsure if it is just a band aid. I didn't even know about the powerflo kit. Isn't it a tad bit expensive ($300) for just two resonators? I think so...

If it was my exhaust I would get the Powerflo conversion kit from SLP. It may be $300 but it looks nice and it stainless steel. It may also be less expensive then buying an entire new catback which may only be mild steel and rust.

EDIT: here you go, lower price ~$275

PowerFlo is the way to go. I had the Borla xr-1 and granted I liked it but it was still a little loud and raspy. With my setup now its a deep tone with no rasp and when I want to be loud I just open the cutout.

Just get the slp lm2 resonater. Thats what I have. would be the cheapest way probably. I have headers and y-pipe and its not real loud. Id say it is quieter than the lm1 with manifolds. good luck

Hey James. Are you running a Catted or Off Road Y-pipe? If you've got an ORY you could try adding cats. I have LM1 with Jet Hot LT's and Catted Y and I like it. Yeah, its loud, but not over the top. Here's a link if you're interested in hearing it:

I had both the LM1 and LM2 resonators with the dynatech headers with the cats/testpipe setup. The offroad pipes and LM1 are obnoxious, the LM1 with cats is tolerable, the LM2 with offroad pipes is quieter with a much better sound, and the LM2 with cats is quiet enough to hear the rear end hum and the radio without having to blare it.

I would try the LM2 resonator just for ease of exchangeability. I think it was around 90 dollars when I bought mine and there are no mods or additional pipe/clamps required.

I have a Kooks catted Y right now, and it is still raspy to me. In fact, I just got pulled over today for how loud it was...
