It’s actually very difficult to reliably get a lot of amps out of the small CS-130 alternators that come on our cars. The better option is to step up to a CS-144 alternator. As I understand it, they’ll fit without too much hassle. The only reason I haven’t yet done this is lack of funds-for now.
These people seem to know a lot about this:

I built a 150amp Delco CS144 alt. for my Camaro, and it doesn't even discharge at idle despite the underdrive crank pulley I have on it.
Another thing I did even BEFORE upgrading to the CS144 was to replace the main charge wire going from the threaded post on the back of the alt. to the junction block on the fenderwell with 4-gauge wire....that even made the stock CS130D alt. charge much more efficiently. You might want to upgrade the charge wire first before changing alternators.

I picked up one of those 160 amp MSD billet alternators. I have yet to figure out a way to mount it in my Z as MSD decided not to market mounts for these for our LS engines.

I've got a 200 amp Powermaster. I believe it's the larger CS-144. It was bigger than stock. Had to carefully bend some of the aluminum power steering lines out of the way to get it to fit.

130 amp alt
I know it's late but I have a 2000 camaro ss and wanted better voltage, I have a 130amp alt. Off ebay made in usa, I know the main power/charging cable is highly recommended to be upgraded. I have my main pwr cable from the alternator to the battery and another at the battery to the junction block, I assume this was a upgrade, the cables look about 6 gauge maybe a little bigger, would 130amp be ok to run, not too much amperage?
