Default QTP cutout opinion/confusion

Soo I've had the cutout on my car for about a year now and love the sound so 90% of the time i have it open of course, but then i got to thinking maybe my exhaust is a little too free flowing since i pickd up the ORY, its hard to tell whether its faster when its open or close since its so damn loud, so last time at the track i thought id do a little experiment
So I ran the 1/8th three times with it open and got about 82.xxx mph every time, my runs with it closed where 85.xxx mph....so apparently with it closed its faster, the times prove it.
Anyone have any ideas on this? I'm thinking since i have the ORY there's just no backpressure or not enough and actually slows me down a bit. and since my engine is basically stock im not really flowing that much exhaust to really make good use of the cutout, I'll try it again when i put the TR224 in and see if it makes a difference then....

aight well i ran 8.912, 8.935,8.901 with it open at around 82, and with it closed 8.860, 8.872,8.835 at 85 , with a shitty 2.4 60' each time, i dont know what the deal is but its pretty consistent that its faster with it closed. And i put the cutout there since I'm lowered figured it would help clearance a bit....there are a few others on here who have that setup

with those mods your cutting 2.4 60 foots and running 8.8s@85... that doesnt add up...

anyways..

i honestly dont have an answer... maybe try to change the location of the cutout?
other than that, i dont have a clue.. i highly doubt lack of back pressure is the culprit though..

well i dont have a cut out on my trans am, but i did have a cut out on my other car which was a 2004 supercharged grand prix gtp. Even though it was forced induction, i did noticed a difference when it was open opposed to close. with it open, it felt like i lost low end torque and from a dead dig or low role the car felt sluggish. I raced my friend's 97 z28 and with it open i usually lost by a car from a dig but with it closed I only lost by a fender or so from a dig. IMO, cutouts are all for show but no go, its nice to open it up and show off but no real performance gain from it. note, I also did have a QTP cut out and mounted it in a similar place (by the rear wheels, before my mufflers). Hope this helps, Duray
