Talking Y pipe idea!!!

Let me know what you all guys think about this idea.I have 98 SS and i going to install a set of LT pacesetter in 2 weeks from now.I going to make a custom Y pipe .I going to go 3" tubing from the hedders to a flowmaster y pipe into a 4" I pipe them were I the start to bend over the axell i going to use a 4"electric cut out to retein my factory muffler so my car can be quiet in the street and full potential at the track and in any emergency with a cobra svt in the freeway .
Let me now you pros & cont. on this idea. Thanks

That should sound pretty good, won't be horribly mean but should have a good tone to it. I like the four inch pipe idea :-)

Why not just have a y-pipe made with dual 3" cutouts, then just use the 3" catback? I have a 4" system with a Spintech muffler, and then dual cutouts on the y-pipe. It sounds mean as hell with them open. I did it purely for the sound though, didn't gain much of anything by opening it up.

Birdie2000, I'm in the market for a 4" catback, which one do you have, and how do you like it?

I have a custom setup that's based off of some Mufflex pipes I got from a local guy. It uses the 4" Spintech muffler with dual outlets. I love the sound, but I'm switching to true duals with fullsized mufflers for other reasons. It isn't as loud as you'd think, but remember that 4" systems aren't going to be exactly quiet. If it's worth anything, I'm gonna probably be using Spintech mufflers for the duals too.

I want to use just one cut first is less expensive one cutout & second space saving under the car.I don't really care about how it sound with open cutout. But want it as quiet as possible in the street.

You pretty much just described my exhaust system. I have QTP headers, 3" Y-pipe into a 4" Flowmaster collector, 4" pipe to a 3.5" electric cuttout with the stock muffler out back. It's as quiet as a stock system without cats when the cuttout is closed and picks up 28 RWHP on the dyno with the cuttout open.

I sure like it. I've tried a few exhaust configurations and this one is BY FAR my favorite one. I don't think I'll ever change it. The only problem is, when cruising, my exhaust is SOOOOOOO quiet that I can hear my valvetrain puuurrrrrring. Kinda puts me to
