Yah, I haven't see too many guys do this mod. I'm not sure of the exact costs involved, but I was pretty sure that the most felt that the gains to be had weren't really worth the cost.

I understand that...but with my 3rd Gen headers are an issue with the stock K member. So I might have to consider doing something like this if it worthwhile.

I'm a fan of the stock manifold in stock trim, so a good set of exdrude honed ones would certainly be better.

The price will determining factor...

I've hand-hogged a set to port match them (removing
a squared-off lip that protrudes about 3/16" into the
port top and bottom). I think this is where the gains are
to be found. The casting except at the flanges is pretty
thin-wall and not bad looking as far as roughness. I don't
think Extrude-Hone can take off much material and still
keep wall strength against cracking. The late ('02)
manifolds I did look pretty reasonable other than the
ports and 1/2 hour of die grinder beats the EH price by
a fair bit of yardage.

I did the same. I have an 02 WS6 and did the port match and polish to the stockers. I just dynoed last week and with a 224/581, 114LSA cam I layed down 357.6 rwhp on a A4 and 346 rwtq.

With LT headers I know it would be worth about 25 to 30 more hp with the setup I have. I plan on getting headers soon so if you want to buy them off me I'll sell them.

I think you'd be better off going at em with a grinder to clean em up and then having them coated. I picked some power up (101 stock 104 after ) just by cleaning out the pipes on my bike and having them coated.Cost me $150 to have a head pipe coated (I have a twin). Shouldn't be much more for a set of manifolds.Sent them and had em back in the same week. The difference in heat in the engine bay will be noticable too.

I am looking for a set of iron manifolds off an 01-02 and an aftermarket y that I can fiddle with and have coated until I can get the LT's I want. I am not spending $1000 on a set of headers only to have to buy another set when I build my new motor.

As it sits now I am planning on:
Worked stock manifolds,aftermarket offroad y with a good cat-back.
When I build the 400 I will most likely use headers and duals .
