Question Cold Air Intake?

Any1 no where you can get a cold air intake?? Or even better is it possible to build one at home so I don’t have to pay $300. There has to be a way to build one? Gotta baby on the way and trying to get a house and I really think $300 is ridiculous for a intake that has pretty much nothing special to it. Any help would be great.

Sounds like you've got alot going on! Congrats on the baby. $300 for an intake, you must have an LT1. Just look for one for sale in the FS/WTT threads.

Thanks yea we're pretty busy. No I have a LS1 but I know the K&N intake is over $300. I like the deep throaty sound you get from the aluminum pipes so thats what i'm wanting to use. I would really like to run my own to save some money but with that stock hood it makes it difficult I’ve looked and looked online to find out how to do it cuz I know there has to be away I just haven’t been able to find anything on LS1s only on LT1s.

Best thing you could do on the cheap would be to make a ram air kit for less then 50 bucks with ducting from lowes and get a lid. Make more power and you will still hear that throatyness with just a lid.

I’ve shaved off those baffles on the stock lid, filled in the two wholes on the silencer wing, cut out the plastic under the filter to get more air in from the bottom, and I've also done the P/P on the MAF and TB. Would buying a lid still make much more of a difference HP and sound wise?

you guys ever look at the fast toys and slp ram air kits. with the lid and the ram air together i think that you would make the same if not more power. the fast toys is about 200 and the slp is like 150.

from what I've read you will make more power and get colder air with a lid and ram air like they're talking about

run ducting to the round holes in the grill, cut the lower air box to accept the ducting and BAM, coolest air you can get will have about as straight a path to your intake as possible

that's the one thing I envy about the stock ls1 camaro setup...how easy it is to make a ram/cold air setup that both works and looks good

and I'm sorry but anyone who pays $300 for a k&n cold air tube is an idiot with more money than sense

Yea its pretty easy removes your filter and you'll notice there’s plastic underneath. Just cut that plastic off and now you'll pull air in from where the radiator is at. And you'll feel the difference by just doing that...well at least I did. Then get the metal ducting and you can use it to make the air more direct to the filter.
