Unusual problem I have a 2000 T/A with kooks lts and a catted y and its an a4 and i recently
did the free cold air mod about a week ago car was runnin great till today.
I started it up in the morning no problems then as i was leaving work later in t
he day it started to run like it was running out of gas and the fuel gauge was
showin a lil less then 1/8 so i babied it to the closest gas station filled it up
and went to start it and it was idling very poorly at about 400rpms and
surging no power went toput it in a spot and it just didnt want go it stalled 3
times within 20 feet so i thought maybe fuel pump or clogged screen on the
pump. screen was clear so i went under the hood and assumed it must be a
bad sensor so i had it runnin and pulled the maf senor and it ran better and
the i pulled the iat and it smoothd out fairly nice so i tried gettin home and it
just wouldnt let me give it more then 25% throttle without bogging and
backfiring but it made it up to highway speeds and it held 1500rpms no
problem while cruising but just wouldnt accelerate like it should i didnt finds
any vaccum leaks either. If anyone can take the time to read this id

Could be watered down gas. Or that station was low so it was getting gas from the bottom of the barrel so you got crap in with your gas and clogged something. Try running some octane booster or something through it or lucas through your fuel system. That might help.

Sounds like a failing fuel pump to me. Insufficient volume prevents the motor from having power and running at higher rpms.

sounds like a failing pump, check pressure when u can, also check the MAF and see if the 3 wires inside havent been hit and cut, that will fool with a computer. When u unplug the maf the comp defaults to presets thats y u couldnt go over 25% throttle its limp home mode
+1 for the fuel pump. Mine acted like this the year after I bought the car...glad it was still under warranty! A fuel pressure check will let you know if the pump is weak, which it sounds like it is. I was happy that I could limp mine to the dealership, and your lucky as well...most electric fuel pumps fail altogether leaving you stuck on the side of the road.
