Default Edelbrock Shorty Headers on a 1998 Ls1

Yes.. I know shorty's suck... but I have to pass emissions and I'd just like to squeeze a few more HP out of the car and I am on a tight budget. I can find the edelbrock shorty headers all day long for $125 - $150 which sounds great to me. The problem is everyone has them for a 2000 - 2002 Camaro. I have a 98.

I am guessing the only major difference is provisions for the EGR? I was planning on getting an LS6 manifold next summer and getting the EGR tuned out anyway. Will I be able to use the headers at that point or is there a difference in where the cats sit on a 98-99 compared to the later years? Anyone installed these on a 98 Ls1?

Thanks Guys!

if you want to save some money, get the 2000-2002 stock manifolds. they are essentially shorties and should cost you no more than 60 bucks

And those will bolt right up to the stock cats and ypipe of a 98? I was considering either path but I can't seem to find if there is any difference aside from the EGR.

Near Chicago if you were asking me. I'm not going to go through all the trouble of registering it elsewhere. I just want to get a few more HP out of the car, if I can get a cheap set of shorties or a cheap set of 2000-2002 manifolds and they will bolt up minus the EGR then I will be more than happy. But will they??

Ya I meant you the original poster. Just wondering how tough the emissions there really are?? The 01-02 manifolds would bolt to the engine/heads but ya there'd be a problem with the rest of the exhaust.

I had Edelbrocks on my 98 Z28, loved em for them being shorties. I dropped like 3tenths in the 1/4 on a stock engine. First time I went down the track after putting them on I thought they gave me someone elses time slip lol.

There was a set in the for sale section here a few days ago. $150 shipped, but I've seen then a bit lower. I still dunno what I'm going to do but I may just save up for longtubes. The only emissions we have nowadays is they plug into the Dash port and make sure the car isn't throwing codes and it sounds like as long as the car is tuned properly folks in Chicago pass easily.

You're lucky. If you can get away with it, go for the longtubes.

Another option are the mac mids. They make good power.

You might think about getting a tune too if youre getting new headers. Save more and go LTs and tuned. The best way is to do it once for good. Youll end up paying more if you dont do the install yourself.
200$ for stainless LTs

Don't think you'll notice any difference in sound between the two. Unless you get an offroad Y pipe to go with the shorties.

No, the 00's are the same higher flowing manifolds that the 01-02 cars have, only there is an EGR tapped.
