Help! Broke Something, not sure what??
Help! Broke Something, not sure what?? Well I started tearing my stock ls1 intake manifold to make way for my ported ls6 intake and ported and polished TB 
and somehow amongst the removal I broke some kind of sensor plugged into the top of my engine just behind my intake (see picture). If anyone could tell me what it is I would appreciate it. And by chance if they have ever removed one.. I cant seem to get it out

For some reason i cant upload the picture to an observable size, i have circling the sensor but it's that black thing sticking out of the block just to the left of the number seven port hole just beneath the cowl of the car. Any input would be great. sorry no pictures... damn photobucket

yeah if your talkin about that black thing that sticks perpindicular to the ground pointed up in the air that is your oil sending unit sensor... and a cresent wrench should be able to get it off if you have the intake off still, but if the intake is on you have to go get the a speacial socket to take it off if you wanna make your life a million times easier...

Dont feel bad, picture this: Motor out of the car on an engine stand, intake off, go to remove the sending unit and still break it sometimes you just cant help it.
sometimes you just cant help it. 
Yeah, when I figured out what it was I also discovered it is pretty commonly broken.. I cant seem to get a socket to fit right although still have the intake off. anyone have a technique for a cresent wrench?

there is a special oil sending unit socket to fit it (autozone has them), be really carefully when installing the new one it is hollow on the inside and it is very easy to brake i also like to use a small amount of pipe sealant on the threads not too much. good luck! i'm part of the broken oil sending unit club to

IMO, it's a delicate sensor in a bad location & can be real easy to break if you aren't aware of the situation. It almost looks like it was designed to break when when the intake is removed haha! 
Really lol? I've never broken one either, but that's just because I did alot of research before I ever took mine off. I started finding threads about the sensor location and how many people had broken it off when removing the intake. If I hadn't read about it already, I'm almost positive I would have broken my sensor the first time I took the manifold off. I have had mine off a bunch and done swaps for others, probably a total of 30 times of taking a intake manifold off, I managed to break one a few months ago. It was a first for me but I hardly touched the sensor, it just seemed to go in peices.
