Default Boring a LS1 Throttle Body

Is is possible to bore out a stock Throttle body and replace it with a larger butterfly valve?

Or is it possible to hone the TB so slightly that The stock valve can be kept?

hey thanks,
nathan

Search "porting Trottle Body" or on installuniversity.com there is a step by step instructions on how to do it.

There is a lot of info on polishing and porting TB's but not per se boring them out.

I have a 98 that I had bored out about four years ago. It's too big now for a stock LS6/LS1 intake inlet.. the inlets are only 75.5mm or so. I have one bored out to somewhere between 78-80mm's. I'll sell if you want to play with it, i have a bigger plate in it but the whole setup needs more work.

If you bore it, you strike air in the thin spots before 78 mm. You'll also get into the bearings shortly thereafter. While it can be done, unless you are using the FAST intake or porting out an aluminum LS1 intake copy, it's not much of a help. The stock manifold opening is about 75.5 mm, and the TB is 75 mm.

Those who port stock TBs take out the lip in front of the blade to help increase flow. Filling the cavities and reshaping the inlet portion are also part of the porting. Check with Bret at Bauer Racing, a sponsor.

This is true, I've checked into it as well. There is also an O-ring like gasket very close to the edge, and thin walls in the inlet mouth of the maniflod that prevent you from doing much porting. But if you wanted to bad enough, there are ways around all of this, it would just be a lot of work.

I did both of these and still haven't found how to do it. Maybe I am over looking it.

Edit: Nevermind I found it. Sorry.

jay at AS is doing this. right now he's cncing my tb to 78mm. then he epoxies the front of the intake and opens it up to match. you obviosly have to use a different gasket as the stock one will not work after you have done this.

my point being, it can, and has been done.
