How do you fix exhaust leaks?
What do you guys do about getting slip fittings to stop leaking? I have a couple that can't be welded and tightening the exhaust clamps doesn't help.

Sometimes you can take the clamp off, wrap a layer of tinfoil around the joint, put clamp back on, tighten down.
Mine used to leak to until I just went bezerk with a impact gun on them. Tightened the down like a @#$%#!#^@.

I've heard about trying teflon tape under the clamp too. It's supposed to be good up to about 600ish degrees so I figure it'd probably work on everyone except maybe right at the header. I'm not real sure how hot that gets.

I'm so tired of leaks poluting my 02's and wideband. I think when I make my true duals I'm going to weld them right to the headers. If I ever want to take them off then I'll cut them off... and most likely get new headers since my coated pacesetters are getting pretty rusty.

Oh I wouldn't recommend welding their exhaust to the headers to anyone else, lol. But I'm ready to build some true duals and I just don't want to drop the cash on some ball/socket connectors. My V-band clamps havent worked out too well for leaks, even with double nuts on them. Band clamps always leaked for me. U clamps not only leak, but crimp the pipes together.
So, next time I think I'm just going to weld them strait to the headers. I've already got to cut the Vbands out, and the headers haven't aged well, so I don't really give a crap about welding the stuff together. It ought to be leak free then! And seriously, if I need to take it off then I'll just sawzall or use an air cutter... then weld it right back. No gaskets, no sealer... and not really that much of an inconvenience for me. Heck, if I design the duals like my Y pipe then I can still take the trans out without dropping the exhaust.
...actually, I can't think of any reason that I'd need to drop the exhaust... unless I needed to change headers.
This is not a user friendly option if you don't have a welder and lots of air tools.
