I don't know if I can wait for the man-money to build up over months. This needs to happen now. I might just have to put some pressure on the wife. How can WE need this?

I found these today: A .030 over 454 Chevelle with some E-cutouts and Warlocks. This is the kind of stuff that empties wallets...

And another with turndowns on them:

Why the hell haven't we used these mufflers before? We've been rockin true duals on F cars for how long? If I'm not the first to put them on a LS1 Fbody, then I'll be the first to document the hell out of it.

I think you'd be better off running the pipes over the axle on the passenger side and hanging each muffler right behind the rear tires.

Nah, I like an exhaust that dumps under a car. If I had a T/A then I might consider it but I like the way Camaros look when they don't have any exhaust pipes. Not to mention that it would be a nightmare trying to weld that kind of setup at home with the car on jackstands. I've always wanted a dumped exhaust so I think this will be perfect.

Eventually I'd like to make a set of matching turnouts for the cutouts. That would probably look pretty cool.

Are you just going to run the mufflers under the floor pans before the axle?

Once upon a time I had a 88 Camaro with LT headers, straight to an H pipe to 2 chamber flow masters and turn downs. They are bolted onto the floor board before the axle. It was LOUD, plus clearance was almost non-existent. Eventually one side got violently ripped off when I went up a small hill that had a man hole cover on it.

Yup that's the plan. It's hard to have true duals on an Fbody without hammering in a few places to get some clearance. There are a lot of guys on here that run a similar setup. The only thing that will make mine unique are the mufflers, but it's not because of their size. People run flowmasters and maganflow mufflers under the car all the time. Only the ones that use a BFH on their rear seat pans get to experience good ground clearance.

Actually, now that I think about it, the one chambers flowmasters are a 4x10 case, so you should probably be ok. Good luck with it man and I will still try to get some pics for ya.
how bout some damn sound clips? been waiting for 3 years....

Gotta say, MM98, you've definitely insprired me to make a system like this. I hope you don't mind me posting up your pictures/videos.

He has some really good clearance with that setup. Problem is it will be way way way to loud for a street car IMO, but YMMV.

BTW I like his wheels I have a set of those in 17x9'' on my Formula.

The Warlock Mufflers look awesome! I can't wait to hear them behind an LS1.

I'm not sure I'd be willing to beat on my floorpans (let alone cut them, WOW!) in order to get enough clearance for the exhaust.

Much respect to those of you who are willing, though.

Definitely interested in seeing how this build turns out. Good luck!

Stop it you're making me blush .. I don't mind at all, especially if you or anyone else likes it enough to want to do it.. I just knew I was never gonna get the sound I wanted running a single exhaust set-up.. I love that old school tingy exhaust sound and if it meant making room on the floor pans then I that's what was gonna be done. Thanks again for the comments and Ill be watching to see what you fab up.

Mike

I think the mufflers on the new ZO6 are like that, aren't they? When you floor it theres a soloniod ojn the mullers that open them up and they get louder and flow better

there is no solenoid, they arent electric. they are pressure activated. when there is enough pressure in the exhaust i.e. WOT, they open up.

I'd love to figure out a way to make that. I mean, when I hit WOT it might as well automatically open up IMO. It would most likely make for a more consistant tune too. I'd get to enjoy the low end grunt/throttle response that comes from a setup with backpressure, but also enjoy strait thru restrictionless areas where the engine is loaded... and nasty sound.

Maybe I can figure out how to fab up a valve on a spring, like the new dynamax muffler.

if you can weld and fab, it wouldnt be hard. you would just have to find out how much pressure is in the exhaust system at whatever RPM/load you want it to open, and find a spring that gives up basically at that pressure. IMO, it would be easier (more expensive) to use an RPM window switch for nitrous, and wire the switched side to a pair of electric cutouts.

Here's some pictures of the D port merge kit. I really don't lack much in the way of parts; just some mufflers, connecting pipes, and some misc stuff like hangers, etc. I'm debating weather or not to go ahead with it so that I might acquire a torque arm. I hear there's a little more ground clearance to be had if you've got an aftermarket torque arm.

Here's the kit, with a solo cup for reference:

Here's a close up of the outside of the merge:

And here's about the best shot I could get of the inside with my cell phone cam.

I think this merge will funcion pretty well.

As promised I've got it propped up in my garage by the door so I have to look at it every time I come in or go out.

Will do. I'll also get soundclips of the hooker catback with 4" merge for a little contrast too.

That's a really nice looking setup. I may have to steal your idea shortly. I like those mufflers too, but I'm going to stick with my ungodly loud no muffler trend.

Electric cutout work great. When they work that is! I've had a few issues with the valve working loose.
