My True Dual build
-3" Flowmaster D Port Merge
-Flowtech Warlock Mufflers
-3" Hedman X-Tensions
-Summit Header Buddies
-Misc hangers, etc.
The Dport merge should provide some nice low-end "h-pipe" power and some good high-end scavenging, like an X-pipe. The Header buddies/Xtensions should give me a leak-free seal and enough extra pipe to make up for any differences in fitment, as well as offer a few extra bends that I can create a pair of turndowns from. The mufflers are going to be the cool part. They function as normal "turbo" mufflers (which have a nice deep and mellow sound) and should offer a little resistance (dare I say backpressure
) to push against in city driving circumstances. When I take it to the track... or add some e-cutouts... I'll be able to uncork them to have a strait shot thru the muffler for those moments when nasty loud is needed
. The Mufflers are 13" long, 10" wide, and 4.5" tall. The height would concern me but I plan on beating the crap out of the floorpans. Honestly I plan on hammering out any part of the floor that might cause me to loose clearance... that and a little time in the vice for the exhaust pipe to give it a slight oval design around frame rails. Obviously I'll flip the fuel lines, and I might even wait to get an aftermarket torque arm if it means that I can tuck it up a little higher. My goal is good ground clearance, and I plan on taking my time making sure that everything is tucked well before I start welding. I've got poly engine mounts, so I'm going to hang it as high as I can.
Here are some pictures of what I'll be ordering in the months to come:
Flowmaster D-Port Merge #15933 :

FlowTech Warlock Mufflers #50560FLT :

Summit Header Buddies #SUM-G4772 :

Hedman X-Tensions #18718 :

This will take me a few months to accumulate, but at least I ordered the merge kit. Looking at it on the shelf in the garage every morning will keep this project on my mind. I'm hoping for a unique sound, good flow for the track, with fairly mellow idle in the city. I think I'm going to run turn-outs on the muffler exit, and no pipe on the bypass exit.
So, in the distant future I'll be selling off my hooker catback, and custom pacesetter Y with 4" flowmaster merge.
Stay tuned

The D-port Merge was $160.40 shipped from Performance Peddler ($199 plus shipping from Summit) Google Shopping + part numbers are your friend

The mufflers will be ~$123 for the pair, assuming that I can talk a store manager at Advance into getting me a 20% discount. Advance has them in their warehouse, and if you catch a store getting close to the end of their sales period you can make some deals!
The header buddies from summit are $22.95 per pair, and the extensions are $29.95 per pair.
I'll probably have about $350 in them when I'm done.
I plan on taking extensive pictures, to include the all important 12oz can clearance pics. I'll even throw in some sound clips from the hooker setup that I'm rockin, and then have a compare file for the duals. I just hope that the Fbody sound goes away when I kill the single 3" pipe going over the axle.
I think I'll take enoug pictures to give someone a good idea of what will be involved in fabricating some duals. As long as you've got access to a welder, a chop saw, hand tools (most importantly a BFH), and a way to hold your stuff in place while you tack it together then you should be able to make your own.
I'm a beginning weldor and I'm not affraid to hammer on my ride to make some ground clearance, afterall, it's a Camaro
I'm sure my welds won't look perfect, I just want it to sound good.

Should be relitively quiet and drive well with the cutout closed and run like no muffler with the cutout open.
As far as the floor pans are concerned, I don't see myself doing any fabbing. I'll probably be satisfied with just hammering them in so that I can hang these mufflers as high as I can. I've seen where people have cut their floor boards out and welded in a flat piece of steel before. That's the best looking setup, and they claim that their back seat is still usable as long as you don't cut it too shallow. That's a little too much work for me right now, maybe in the future. I'm thinking mine will turn out a lot like MM98's floorpans.

I've thought about cutting out the pans of the seats, but I'm not really wanting to put that kind of effort into it. I remember your thread for your 4" exhaust and it turned out looking good. I'm not running any rear seats and don't plan on putting them back in. I also don't want to cut the carpet there either. So pulling out the carpet and trimming out the seat pans would be a lot of work. I ran across a thread where a member sectioned out his pans so that he could get full sized mufflers under the car and he mentioned having to put in a flexible fuel line... I think he talked about dropping the fuel tank too.
If I could come up with a better way of routing the fuel lines under the body of the car then I would rather do that... then I'd BFH the seat pans until I could mount a microwave under each seat

Thanks for the replies guys.
Hey MM98: Do you have an aftermarket torque arm? If so, how much closer were you able to tuck your pipes?
Actually, now that I think about it, the one chambers flowmasters are a 4x10 case, so you should probably be ok. Good luck with it man and I will still try to get some pics for ya.
Your fuel lines are routed nicely. What was involved in relocating them?
The 3" mufflers come with the offset that the advertisement shows, so that should put them closer to the center.
Screw buying a pair of cutouts. I'd love to figure out a way to make something that would either open under full throttle automatically, or come up with a cheaper way to add an electronic butterfly to it.
