They're only .5" taller than a bullet muffler. I'm hoping that if I beat the crap out of my floor pans then they'll tuck up there. We'll see though...

13" long, 10" wide, and 4.5" tall. Your 4" muffler is freakin huge!

I think I might sandblast all the black paint off the mufflers before I weld them on. It scrapes off too easy and will probably flake off after a few heat cycles in this Alabama humidity. I've got a few cans of black 2million° paint that I plan on spraying on the whole setup when I'm done.

I dont know why, but I feel like this is a project that will take a long time. I bet if I got off my *** and just sweat a for a few hours in the garage I'd have it on. Welcome to the procrastination station.

One thing that might make me hold off on this is that my father-in-law are looking into getting a 2 post lift... life may be getting sweet! We went to look at it today and it had this sticker on it, which I thought was hilarious:

My single chamber is listed as: 11.5 (total length) 12 width, and 5 tall. Looks like you are gonna be tucking a similar sized muffler.

And just for fun, here's my turndown:

Lol, sorry. I've been on the mad hunt for a cheap car lift, so with that lingering over my head the idea of crawling under my car on jack stands in a 110° garage to do some welding hasn't been appealing. But, I look at this stuff on a daily basis on my way in and out of the garage and I can't help but get impatient. I've got a staycation planned for the first week in august so I'll probably do it then. First I've got to flip my fuel lines and get my torque arm installed with a correct pinion angle.

I've also been eyeballing some apps on my phone for measuring decibels so I can do a comparison between the hooker and true duals. Anyone have experience with an app like this?

Don't worry, yall. I haven't forgotten! I have a feeling that it's going to be bad ***! I really hope that the leaks that I've been hearing aren't coming from rotten pacesetter headers instead of the vband clamps...

I'm going to be doing measurements between open headers and a TSP Rumbler once I get it installed, but that's with a calibrated SPL meter I have access to at work. It tops out at 130db, and I'm thinking I might peg it. You might be able to get a phone app to work, but I wouldn't look at anything but the delta between the two exhaust setups - I doubt the phone is going to be accurate enough to give you real numbers, assuming it doesn't max out.

Flipping the lines gives you extra room to run your exhaust in the tunnel. They hang kinda low from the factory and flipping the brackets gives you extra clearance.

Thanks for the info on the sound measuring equipment. I figured that the phone app wouldnt be extremely accurate. Like you said, I figured I could at least show the change between the setups.

I dont mean to thread jack, but are true duals not mass produced by any exhaust companies for our fbody? I've been trying to research exhaust setups and it is turning out to be a huge headache....

Right on the money. There was one by lane too, search "lanes true duals." Speed Inc makes some too, but they're more of a custom fit deal.

...then you get setups like the one I've been peicing together: Custom pipes, custom merge, and full boddied mufflers. I don't know of a kit that mass produces a full size muffler dual that dumps at the axle. It would be hard to do that as part of your installation instructions would include beating the crap out of stuff. Most people aren't willing to do that.

Yes, a little update: I've now got a 2 post lift! I just haven't installed it I found a business that was downsizing here in Montgomery and I scarfed up a lift for $1k. Not a bad deal. It's been hard to make myself crawl under a car when I know that once I have a lift I won't be doing much of the old back dance to shimmy under the car, lol.

Plus, I got a bike... I got an 04 Yamaha RoadStar Warrior and I bet I've put close to 2k miles on it in about 3 weeks.

I haven't forgotten about the car though. Every time I go in and out of the garage I see exhaust pieces laying everywhere. I'll keep everyone posted once I get the lift up. And once I start adding soundclips I'll try to put them at the beginning of the page since this one is getting to be pretty long without any major updates along the way.

Nothing special. It's just a black hardtop Z with some silver ZR1 wheels.

How much ground clearance do you guys need? I've read on here for years how you can't fit mufflers under these cars and I believed it. Well I INSIST on true duals on any V8 car, and I was tired of the noise of the TSP TD's with even the spiral flows, so I decided to try it meself. So I bought a new set of TSP TD's and a pair of standard TWO chamber flowmasters (13"X9.75"X4" case) and was amazed how eazy it was. All I really needed to do was extend the pipes where the mufflers attach by 3" and the mufflers really seemed to fall right in place. I didn't touch the floors. I don't scrape anything. I don't get the problem? I did this witout a lift, and without welding equipment on site. Every thing had to be set up, well marked, removed, then welded at work, one weld at a time(I added cats too). All you need to do is take your time. If the pipes forward of the mufflers aren't tucked up tight then your mufflers will never tuck up nice.
