Default Power (Up/Down)grade going from TDs to cutout?

Alright fellas, ripping the exhaust out of my car for clearance reasons primarily, and room to grow reasons secondarily.

Currently has a fantastic set of LPP 1 3/4inch stainless headers on it. goes into a 3inch TSP true dual system that dumps at the axle.

Switching to a TSP 1 7/8 inch header running to a 3inch electric cutout and a magnaflow catback.

Am I going to be losing power, gaining power, or staying the same (on this stock cubed 6 liter).

Car made 398 rwhp, 395 rwtq in its current form. In the end, it's probably only going to be a marginal +/- difference in horsepower, but I'm curious as I will be riding around on this setup for a year or so until the build comes together.

cuts outs closed i'll guess you'll lose but once you open you'll gain

Cool thanks

I figured as much with the cutout closed, it was with the cutout open that I'm most curious about.

I'd like to see a dyno to see the gains/losses if any. I know TD"s flow pretty well but the cutout might yield a slight gain.
keep us posted when your new setup is on

Shouldn't be a noticeable difference either way. In theory, larger primaries and the cutout should yield a little more power up top than the true dual setup.

I don't really plan on dynoing the car. Probably a waste of money at that point. It's tuned as it is now, and it probably doesn't need a re-tune, and that would be the only time I would put it on the dyno. Just knowing that in theory, I should be making a few more ponies is good enough for me.

your going from TD's to a y and catback and how is this room to grow? TD's are the most efficient exhaust you can put on these cars.

No... I'm going from 1 3/4 inch primaries and true duals to a 1 7/8 header and a 3 inch electric cutout.

The catback is not the point of this, I'm running a cutout.

And in my first post, I said ground clearance was the largest issue.

your going from 3" duals with bullets to a 3" y pipe to ONE 3" cut out. the 3" bullets dont hold back anything. i understand the 1 7/8 headers give you room to grow but the y pipe is going to hold you back anything over 500hp even with the cutout open. At your current power level the 1 7/8 headers, y pipe, cutout i think you will lose a little hp.

what you need to do is a setup like mine. it costs but worth it. I have american racing 1 7/8 headers and there 3" y pipe that goes to a magnaflow catback with an extra mufler in the i-pipe to control sound when crusin. But what i did was put 2 low profile oval cutouts from DHM in my y-pipe right after the first bends. IMO this is the best street/strip setup.

^I'm with jerflash...essentially he's running open headers with extensions when the cutouts are open, then a (hopefully) drone free catback when they are closed.

my exhaust was pretty much drone free with the bullet in the i-pipe even with that crappy hooker y-pipe merge. now with this beautiful ARH y-pipe should sound sweet

Thanks for the heads up, rarely do people offer solutions with objecting to an idea.

Well, for what it's worth, I'm doing dual DMH electric cutouts, probably going to hack up the ORY a bit and put them just before the bend into the merge.

Thanks for letting me know guys.

thats pretty much what i did. depending on where you choose to put them and your y-pipe you should have tons of room

should be awesome
