Default Is the guy at the Exhaust Shop shooting me B.S.??

ok, refer to this post I wrote earlier....

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...&highlight=ugh

and I took my car in because I was getting an EGR code and he said that it has nothing to do with the EGR and that the ANNOYING noise I am hearing is completely normal since I don't have catalytic converters..... which I think is because none of my friends cars make the noise and my car hasn't done it as long as I have had the cats off....

he said it was an air purge or something!!! does that make sense???!!??

Just to refresh you, the noise comes out of the exhaust tips and only does it when I start the car until I get up to about 45 MPH.... My bf said it sounds like a fuel pump does, but it is about 4x louder!!

Still isn't fixed!!

all i've noticed is with no cats, my car is loud. did you have the tail pipes tack welded by any chance? or is it just the clamps? same with the tips, any welds or just bolted on? maybe just perhaps, if there is no weld there, if there is a small space the air could come out as a kind of whistling sound, kind of like a tea kettle. however, i've never heard of this, logically, a small escaping of air fromthe exhaust could in theory make a high pitch noise...
honestly id check out the fuel pump. i dunno how much is involved with removing the fuel tank on these ls1's as i havne't had to do that yet, but you could drop the tank pull out the fuel pump and test it. see if its making a loud *** high pitched sound. muffler shops will usually give you some bs about not having cats because technically they aren't supposed to assist anyone without cats on shop hours.
sorry im not much help, ill keep looking around to see if i can find anything.

oh and while you are at it, you might want to go back to the dood that told you this and ask him if the fumes have gotten to him...sounds to me like he's gotta bad case of stupidity or mental retardation in the works.

everything has been welded on my car....

the noise only lasts about 30-45 seconds, when i rev up and the RPMS are high it goes away but when the RPMs go back down it comes back on until I usually get on the gas a little and get the car moving....

does a fuel pump whine all the time or only certain times?

im not familiar with ls1 fuel pumps, but i had a 190 lph fuel pump inmy 95 mustang gt that went and it had more of a hum and it was consisent. only reason i couldn't hear it at the higher rpms was due to the long tubes off road h pipe and dumped flowmaster mufflers

If i find anything ill let you know
Good luck

It sounds like you're having a problem with the electric AIR pump. Disconnect it and start the car, it'll set a code but wont cause a problem because you dont have cats.

You need to post a sound clip, or get someone local to help you do it. That would help us diagnose it.

ps: your boyfriend sounds like a loser.

If the noise goes away after the car has been running about 10 minutes, then you should try to disconnect the AIR pump, start the engine and see if the problem persists.

The easy way to do this is to remove the A.I.R. relay from the electrical box under the hood.

i'm pretty sure i know what you're talking about. it's a little like a belt/pulley whining. my car does it in almost exclusively in hot weather. when it stops, it sounds like air is being released somewhere in the engine bay. i do believe it is related to the AIR pump.

The A.I.R pump will make a similar noise to the one you are describing. You should try to remove the fuse as mentioned by 66ImpalaLT1.

Its the AIR pump.

Pull the AIR fuse and it will go away, allbeit while throwing a code. LS1Edit can kill it.

call up speed inc and talk to them. They will give you a basic LS1edit mail order tune for 150.
