Default What is the name of this piece?!

I changed my oil today and while I was under there I noticed this piece, however mine does not have a bolt or that weird blue thing in it... It actually appears to have a bunch of gunk and debris in it, and it may be leaking around it's gasket. Need to know what it is so I can get a new one and hopefully stop the leak!

It's the location to tap for aftermarket oil pressure gauges or re-directing oil flow for something else. . .

Don't know the name, but give me a minute and I'll check the parts catalog...

Can't find the name, but I can tell you the one that comes on the car isn't tapped normally, but you can do that easily. I had mine tapped for a while and filled it in. more info can be found here...

you don't need a new one, just pull it off and run it over a file to get a flat mounting surface and put it on with a new gasket and very very light film of rtv silicone

I tapped mine for the chevelle's factory oil pressure warning light

If you have a bolt missing, that's why it's leaking. Just get a bolt for it and you'll be fine.

No I'm not using a Fram filter LOL that's not my picture, I found it on google.

Anyways, thunderstruck that might be what I go ahead and do. But where do I get a gasket when I don't even know what the piece is called?!

LS1MCSS, If you look at the thread someone linked above, it sounds like the hole in it isn't even tapped, so I don't think it comes with a bolt in it from the factory... it's almost like a breather or something...

^ That's it! Thanks. I'm going to check the area around it again in about a week or so since I cleaned it up while I was down there so I can actually see if it's leaking or not.

If it's in fact leaking I'll send you a PM!

We would be glad to help you with these parts as well, and guarantee our price to be cheaper then any other GM dealer.

Thanks

Since I think this is leaking, I should probably drain the oil before I remove it, correct? Only reason I ask is because it looks like it sits above the oil level.
