Default True dual vs. Y pipe

Like the title says, which do you prefer and why. Is one better then the other?

Thanks for your time

I love my duals. I made mine myself so I took the time and care to make them fit perfectly. I have no clearance issues at all. My Ypipe from pacesetter was a total POS. It was banging the crap out of the floorboard. The modifications to the Y were so extensive I just decided to build duals....best decision I ever made. I also had a big SOTP gain in power....not to mention I sound mean as hell.

i like my custom ypipe.

reasons:

- better ground clearance, although its still pretty low
- can run the torque arm i want which is a spohn to get the mount off the tranny
- less weight

power between duals and a GOOD ypipe will be about the same. and ive never heard ANY exhaust on an ls1 that sounds better than mine. and yes ive heard duals, and i would consider then equal, but not better.

heres a pic of my setup

Oh yeah. With most of the normal muffler choices, you will be louder with duals. Especially since most people dump it under the car.

it was 450 for everything. that includes the all the parts (new header collectors, cutouts, flowmaster ycollector, and muffler), all the labor (fabbing the ypipe and making new header collectors) and piping (3" mandrel)

its 3" ypipe and 3.5" out of the y collector

That looks pretty good! Three questions..

1. Is it dumped? or does it go over the axle?
2. Does if feel stronger than the old setup, or have you dyno'd again?
3. How does the interior noise compare to the old setup?
THanks
Scott

I like my duals also. They are loud with dynomax ultraflo mufflers. I used to have bullets in it and it was insanely loud. You sometimes notice vibration in the car cause duals usually are dumped under the car instead of out the back.

birdie2000, its a 3.5" flowmaster deltaforce race muffler, part number 435408

gomer,
1) dumped before the axle
2) i would say i gained a good bit. its hard to tell with the power levels im at since i break the bfg drags loose at anywhere under 60, but the butt-dyno says its a little stronger. havent dynoed yet, im probably gonna wait until i swap cams and get it tuned to dyno again.
3) as for interior noise, louder at idle. i had to fix a couple loose panels in the back that would vibrate so now all you here (and feel) is the exhaust. it has one of the meanest sounding idles ive ever heard, even with the "small" cam i have. cruising it is actually quiter inside the car than before.

I'm not able to make sound clips.

My setup is much much much louder than a stock car with the same header-back system, like Priscilla's. On her car it sounds like stock. On my car I have a super deep tone and it has a lot of volume.

I've ridden in Tally's car. Sounds damn mean, yet no rasp, and very tolerable idle decibles. That collector he bought sure looks like it flows well too. Best sounding Y-pipe setup I've ever heard (and I HATE the way Y-pipes sound), and quite frankly, one of the best sounding setups I've heard.

Thanks, but you rode in it on its WORST day, with the hesitation ruining the experience. Problem has gone away.
