Idle problems after header install.

Default Idle problems after header install.

Got my headers on early Friday morning after pulling an all-nighter getting them on.

Everything went well and changed motor mounts, plugs, and tranny mount aswell. But I do have a couple concerns.

Right now there open headers as no exhaust shop is open this weekend. But when I'm out cruising and start coming to a stop from any speed, and I push in the clutch and let the car be in neutral as I come to a stop the idle drops. When I'm slowing down the idle will drop to 300-500 rpm and struggle to stay alive. Once I come to a complete stop it will take a couple of seconds for the idle to smooth out and run evenly at 750 rpm again.

Any idea what is causing this? And do many of yall run your plug wires without heat shield without any problems? There were no heat shields on the car before this and everything seemed fine. There is a good half inch to an inch of space between the primaries and the wire but it still worries me.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

i believe lack o back pressure is causing your idle problem. i bet $100 when you get exhaust on it shell idle like normal again.

ive run msd wires with no heat shields for the better part of 4 years now without a hic up. just make sure you hear them click on twice when you attatch them to the coils

Had the same problem with my open headers after install, put my y pipe and catback on and it still runs rough sometimes at idle but I think its because I need to get it tuned. So if its still not running smooth after the exhaust is put back on, might wanna hit the dyno.

i drove mine couple of miles with open headers..going to the exhaust shop that is lol and it did the same thing, its def. to lack of back pressure. you can say nothing till you get your exhaust done am sure it will drive fine. do you have your O2s installed? just curious.

Yep, front 02s on and rear 02s deleted. The car has never died just struggles to stay alive.

You should get the rear O2's deleted from the computer then, and get a tune.

It's in the exhaust shop now. Getting 3 inch duals with an x-pipe ran out the back with some glasspacks.
