Magnaflow catback minus tips?
I'm just curious if anyone is running the magnaflow catback without the huge polished tips... I'm a big fan of a clean rear bumper on 4th gens, and I was thinking about doing something like Grifter's set up.
Trying to find some turndowns so I can just take off the big tips and use the muffler that I have. Any suggestions? If I can't make that work I was thinking of a 3" in, single 3" out muffler with a turndown like the picture above. Simplicity is good in my book, nothing too flashy.

I'm with you on getting rid of the tips. I have removed the entire Magnaflow muffler and tips and shoved a 3" bullet and turndown on it and ran it a bit (sounded like ****) Did the same thing with a Dynomax super turbo muffler, which sounded better, but still like ****.
The other option is to get (2) 2.5" turndowns. But sice 3 points that hold your Magnaflow catback up in the back are on the stainless tips, you will also need to weld on and bend some small diameter bar stock to the turndowns to be able to hang the rear exhaust. Otherwise that muffler is just too heavy to leave it hanging. With just a bullet and a turn down, it's light enough not to hang it. Hell, it's worth getting rid of probably 10+ pounds just changing over to turn downs.
I am debating on cutting my y-pipe and splicing in a dual 3" to 4" Flowmaster merge, and running a sing 4" pipe all the way back, over the axle and putting a single 4" Borla on it. I hate the huge tips.

Sorry no clips. All I can say is that with the single 3" bullet in place of the magnaflow muffler, it's a lot louder, but extremely raspy. The Dynomax I had sounded a lot better. More like muscle car rumble. Alot deeper throaty tone, but anything over 4200 rpm became pretty raspy. Overall I liked the sound of the Magnaflow better, but it is too small of an exhaust. With a 3" y-pipe, then merged into a single 3", then out to dual 2.5" is restrictive.

I'm not much of a fan of any tips on Camaros, especially the gargantuan Magnaflow ones.

I agree, the only ones I really like are CME, but I wouldn't want to spend that much. I am just going to cut mine whenever I can borrow my grandfathers sawzall or whatever its called. If it looks like crap Ill just get the turn downs.

Here's what I did with a Hooker exhaust. They're angled up, then down. You can't really see them at all. I have just a plain black car. No emblems, no bling. I didn't want to attract any attention. Just a stealthy 6 cylinder...

I'd angle it like how Steve Gunn has it to totally hide the turndowns.
