Yes, it is worth gains. There are some threads with CAI kits gaining a couple mph and a tenth or two in the quarter mile. afterthoughtsauto.com sells the SLP cai, its on sale right now for $120. Then you could buy the extension kit with it for $79. Or you could do the fast toys ram air kit, super sucker, or Chris1313. Any will give you good gains and cost you around $200 I believe.

The SLP CAI in particular, is not as good as you will be
led to believe.

I installed it and saw IAT temps come up a lot, relative
to as-stock (SS). The stainless has no choice but to
follow and hold radiator temp, especially if you do not
run the fans full time. I do, and still it was cooking.

Plastic ones are much better for that. You maybe
could improve the situation with insulation or something
but you're also paying a lot more for stainless when
steel is the root of the problem.

That's good to know. My brother has the SLP CAI. When he purchased the extension a few months ago he said his car was running hotter than normal when he was stopped in traffic or at a drive thru. I thought it was normal for that to happen because all true CAI's like the SSRA, FTRA ect... cover part of the radiator. Are all other CAI besides the SLP plastic? From pictures it looked like the FTRA, SSRA ect... are all metal too.

They all do shroud the radiator as well, so you'd want to
make up for that with fan settings at least.

Don't think there are any that are plastic. They all look to be metal.

I found the slp cai for 60 bucks new in the fs section. I then bought the fast toys ftra upgrade kit for 79.00. with the slp lid that I picked up new for 60.00 last year, im into the whole thing for 200.00, everything brand new. Shop around u will find deals. Oh and with only adding the slp cai, I picked up a solid 1mph. I havent verified the gains with the lower half yet...

*Op Just want to clarify the lid is not the cai. the slp cai is the rectangular tube that sits flush under the lid. The Ftra upgrade comes w/ a lower half that attatches to the slp cai to help direct air flow in. Also comes with a rubber seal that blocks air from entering thru the front of the lid. Personally my car seems to like just the Lid/cai setup with no seal in the front. I would only run the ftra setup at the track because that part causes 90% of the temp increase. They designed it to esaily remove for that reason I believe.

What is so complicated about it? Just read what the links from FTRA tell you about there setup, the SLP is virtually the same except for the fact that it only comes with the top portion that goes under the lid. Not the extra section of metal that connects down to the air dam. However, that extra piece can be removed from the FTRA kit.

Ive ran the FTRA (full kit) for about 2 yrs on my SS now. The car is my daily driver, always has been and so far, i havent had any problems with heat or temps going up. I live in West Texas and in the summer time, it can get hot. This year alone, we had quite a few days throughout the summer hit the triple digits. Car never seemed to be any hotter, if so it wasnt a major difference or enough to make me remove the extra section to help with cooling. I see problems with heat if your out racing the car alot, runs after runs after runs but in normal driving, just cruising around, driving on the highway & etc. I dont see any heat problems, unless the heat is really just that bad and the cars having trouble but then again, with the SLP you shouldnt experience any heat problems, FTRA can addapt to it by removing the small extra section to be similar to the SLP setup. But from my experience, my cars run perfectly fine everyday with no problems, but im also not out racing everyday or running the car hard all the time.

Dont expect big gains for 1 thing, this mod isnt something your gonna feel. Its more of a taking it down to the track and seeing if your number's improve or not. At the end, its a matter of preference on which setup you want, but they are all virtually the same.

I'm glad i stumbled upon this. So you don't need to cut out the bottom box (under the filter and lid) do you? Sorry if that's a dumb question, just trying to get educated

since my car picked up 1 tenth and 1 mph from just the cai(top half), the ram air (lower extension) might gain another .5 tenth and .5 mph if im lucky... I did not notice a sotp gain either, but back to back testing on my g-tech showed it.. Density altitude was within 100 ft of each run.
