Default Using 85mm MAF on 99 LS1 car questions

I have read a few post about the stock GM 85mm truck MAF is a good upgrade for other LS1 cars. I have a 99 TA and wanted to know will this stock GM 85mm truck MAF plug directly into my cars harness or will I need something else?

Thanks,

You will need a pigtail (or adaptor) and tuning, and you
may as well descreen it. See Casper's for the wiring bits
if you don't want to molest a junkyard truck and do your
own soldering.

It s a very easy and good mod. But make sure you get a good tune.

here ya go..
85mm MAF 3 Wire To 5 Wire Adapter
[CAS108100] $30.95

Casper's Electronics 3 Wire To 5 Wire MAF Adapter
When converting your LT1 or LS1 from the factory 3 wire MAF to an 85mm 5 wire MAF, you will need this MAF adapter to attach to the factory harness. This will allow the built in IAT sensor in the 85mm MAF to be functional in place of the detached oem factory sensor.

This will give you a nice clean installation and not require you to drill a hole in your air lid to retain the factory IAT sensor.

I bought the same pigtail from Fast Toys Performance and still cut it up and soldered it together. If you use all those connectors, it makes for a huge clump next to the MAF, no way to hide it. Much cleaner install without the connectors IMO.

I found a few Delphi 85mm MAF's ( GM part # 25168491), the wire harness adaptor and smooth belows.

After looking at the photos above, I notice that my MAF has aluminum parts in front and back that sandwich the MAF with four bolts. The new truck/vette MAF has only three bolts.

My question: what will I need in order to adapt the MAF to fit between my lid and new MAF as well as attach to the new smooth belows. It seems that you have a cupling between your lid and MAF ( yours goes around the outer diameter of your lid while mine allows the lid mouth to go over the outer aluminum part, with clamps over each side).

Seems that I will loose some distance etc..

I was running a stock size air lid and an slp85mm maf. So i had to use the coupler to get them to fit. I had to trim the smooth bellow also but it all fit good after that. If you need a lid I would go with a ftp 98mm lid which is 85mm inner diameter so the 85mm maf will go inside the lid. This way you don;t have to cut the smooth bellow.

The Delphi Maf is not that good , if your gonna spend the money on a 85mm your better of doing the right way and a get a GM one from you local dealer there like $140 or so.

i fabbed up a connector that works great instead of spending time & money on wires (PIGTAIL) .... HINT chop off the plastic cover from your maf connector & as for the IAT find a like wise connector to chop off its covers, thats a bang for da $.
