Arrow LS6 or Holley Intake?

I have a 98 TA that has longtubes, y pipe, hooker catback, slp lid with filter, 3.73's and a mayhem motorsports dyno tune. Car currently makes 321/329 through a stock 4L60E. I'm debating on what intake to buy. Are the holley and ls6 intakes about the same power wise? I will end up camming the car later this year and possibly adding a small nitrous kit as well.

Anyone have dyno graphs from both intakes on a stock ls1?

You should be good with an LS6, i never heard of a holly intake for an ls1. Gains from a stock ls1 intake to an ls6 are about 15-20 rwhp with a tune. You will have to get your car retuned after the modification. You can pick up a good ls6 intake in the parts classifieds for about $300 bucks. Good luck

Go LS6 or fast, nothing else. But really I would do a stall first with a few mods to the 4l60e it will hold for a long time

What mods for the 4L60E would you recommend other than a aftermarket cooler?

Also what seems to be the most popular trans cooler for the 98-02 cars? I'm new to the ls scene so bear with my ignorance.

For the trans get:

-high rpm pump slide spring
-sonnax .490 boost valve
-rebestos 3-4 z pack
-borg warner forward sprag
-wide rear run gear bushing
-wide stator support bushing
-beast sunshell
-white 1-2 acc spring
-brown 3-4 acc spring
-HD 2-3 shift valve, race in regular D position so it supports the sprag.
-transgo separator plate. drill 2nd gear feed hole to .093
-use sonnax servo relese check valve, drill 3rd gear feed hole to .120
-use factory corvette servo or superior 2nd gear servo with above valve
-use a standard width 2-4 carbon band

This is the exact built in a transmission i did for my buddies 11.7 @ 113 stock internal ss4000 stalled camaro 317rwhp

and my other buddies 403 rwhp heads cam ls2 3400 stall 3.42 gears, runs 11.3 @ 119

and my car 10.2 @ 132, but my trans has the 5 pinion planetaries.

This build should be solid at 450rwhp, anything more then that and I would go 5 pinion planetaries, billet output and hardened input drum.

Also make sure to re-use the 3-4 boost spriongs as long as they are good, many people throw these away, but i use them on all builds with the z-pack.

I stopped using shift kits 4 years ago with the 4l60e, B&M kits are the biggest joke, the tel lyou to remove the acc. springs...makes for some hard shifts and broken parts

With the 60e you want a 1-2 shift that will be firm and solid with great holding power without a bang shift.....stall converters help..make sure to get 9.5in or 245mm converter

on the 2-3 shift you want it to be fast and firm as well with the ability to shift at high rpms, this is where stock trannies fail.

LS6 intake is a good upgrade for the money. Studderin proved that the BBK intake manifold with the 85mm TB is pretty decent as well. Not sure about the Holley.

I got a nice bbk 85mm intake, bbk 85mm tb, and PP rails for sale. Its over in the for sale LS engine parts section. Like said above the bbk is proven to make more power\tq than a LS6. Its a good intake if you don't have the cash to go with a fast setup.

It helped me put down 463\399 with heads\cam combo. Let me know.

Why do so many people say this when the bbk is proven to make a bit more than the ls6? Do people think of mustangs when they think of bbk?

Nothing saying your wrong im jw why no one likes them

IMO, Is that the aluminum is a heat sink, in hotter weather you will lose power, with a thermo scanner the stock or fast plastic only reaches 130+/- most aluminum manifold will touch 180 or more, that heats up incoming air and you lose density, your choice, I know what manifold is on my car

The cooler on my car is That exact design, but mine is smaller, less rows, I used this cooler on a 4l60e/ss4000 build I did for a customer, fluid is and has been pink for the past year....

Did you prove that somehow? Loads of people regurgitate that information around here because it's what they read without any actual experience with it...

Interesting. Do you know how much of a power loss their would be vs the ls1 and ls6 manifold?

Yes, I had a ls6 at he time, a buddy had an aluminum manifold on his camaro, I had an infered therno scanner, and we let both cars sit and idle for some time letting the fans cycle. Funny thing, fast his temps were higher them mine, we clsoed my hood, as my car was running, let it sit for anothe r5 min, and my manifold was still cooler with my hood closed, his was hotter with his hood open.

You could not touch his manifold, it would burn your hand, mine (LS6) you can site on with out burning your ***.

Its up to you, run what you want, I know whats going on my stuff.

Same thing goes for headers, I have ceramic headers and my GF has stainless steel, sure the stainless will last alot longer, but my under hood temps are lower then hers, the the stainless steel nonceramic coated headers releases more heat in the engine bay, mine stays alot cooler, but she wanted the stainless beacuse they would never rust.
